Hello,I have been posting for a little while now,and posted awhile back about me getting a GCC.I got him/her on 7-4-07 and he hatched on 4-26-07 we went to the vet where they did bloodwork etc etc and he was in good health minus needing to put on more weight which he has since done he now weighs 57-58 grams, when he was weighing 53.So what im VERY concerned about is i have been researching sneezing for what seems like forever,I lost my very first bird i owned not long ago (4mos)and since have learned quite a bit about illnesses.
I now only have 2 birds which is my GCC and my other Budgie who lived with my first Budgie who i mentioned died from what my vet believed to be a respiratory infection or along those lines.I had gone through my house like a freak trying to clean everything and hope my babies didnt become sick.I took the budgie that lived with my deceased bird to the vet to get checked up and she said we'd watch him for a month which we did and he remained the same and showed no signs of illness. So this is why im here nowMy GCC sneezes I know I know alot of people worry about this, and usually get told to go to the vet,AND i will if need be!But am i worrying too much is what im thinking?I'd guess no simply cuz my babies life is on the line. This is what he does,he like most birds ive seen on here pokes his nose and picks it with his nail till he sneezes!NOW WAIT NOTHING comes out that time "lemme pick it again" he does this a few times till he gets the CLEAR mucus coming out then after it comes out he might do it a couple more times then he done! I dont get this and to be truthfull IM scared as hell.I dont wanna hear that he's sick and dont wanna be told he's fine if he's not fine.My vet just seems as though if they look fine and act fine they are fine unless you wanna do bloodwork. Those seem my only option but i wish someone with more knowledge was available. He doesnt sneeze daily but doesnt do it very rarely either,So ill prolly take him to the vet BUT I BET YOU ALL RIGHT NOW she says "He fine lets just watch him and his weight"Which is what im allready doig!!!Bam $50 bucks i coulda put toward bloodwork for a more accurate answer!I dunno im scared and i truthfully dont got 150 bucks for bloodwork but ill take him in prolly for a $50 visit. What do you all think about sneezing in this case i know you aint here and dont see it etc etc but does it sound as though he went from clean on bloodwork to respiratory ill in that short amount of time from 7/4 till now!I guess anything possible ill stop babbling now.I f anyone wants to pay for winston vets trip let me know(Sike) no one does those things anymore/ever.See ya soon BB ![]() |

Are you sure there's a clear mucus coming out? Is there any mucus caked around his cere? And are you sure the clear mucus isn't actually just water? There was one time when my sun conure induced widespread panic when he dunked his head in his water bowl and sneezed, spraying water, which I immediately mistook for mucus.
Is your GCC displaying any other signs of illness? I think a couple sneezes is normal, unless he really is sneezing out mucus. I also think that the $50 visit would be pointless and to go for the bloodwork, since I've heard vets all too often say that things look okay, but they won't know until they do the workups. Edit: Oh, sorry, I didn't see the other thread. Last edited by saucie; 01-03-2008 at 06:55 PM. |

Hi,
I am going to say that if I were in your shoes, I would go to the vet and get blood work because of your previous experience. Even if it is nothing, and probably is nothing (hopefully), you're going to worry like heck and not be able to enjoy him because you're going to be freaking out every time he sneezes. I am going to give you my bird's sneezing experience. He sneezes and sometimes clear spray comes out and sometimes not. Since he's always sneezed since I've had him and it's been five years, I don't really pay attention to it unless it becomes excessive or there are other changes and so far, it has not. During our windy season here in S. Calif, the santa ana winds, Ducky sneezes a lot more but then so do I. You're not going to relax until you can find out for sure. If you already have the $50, is there someone you borrow the extra $100 for the bloodwork? Or maybe your vet, if you have established a relationship with, will allow you to make payments. |
