I know every place is different but seriously, I honestly believe Petco is a better place to buy birds (if you are not going to buy from a breeder).

PetSmart seems to suck a** across the board, excuse my french. Theiry policy is to not interact with birds at all; wheras PetCo, as bad as they may be do have the policy that all birds be played with and stuff.

Good luck, people. When I go into pet stores I have trained my eyes to not even look at the "bird room". Just get a bird from a breeder. The same bird, and at a better price.

thank you for the article.

Today -- There is a quarantine going on at a Petsmart store in Central Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, PA)! Supposedly through the 3rd week of January!

Really? =x That's horrible.

The Petsmart that Trinkets came from was actually a very nice store - the birds all got great attention, and all of them were healthy and well-cared for. The Petco here, on the other hand, looked like they just left them alone.

I s'pose it's all on an individual store basis, perhaps? :/ Still, horrible to see of all these places having to quarantine.

I thought all Petsmart stores nationwide and in Canada have pulled their birds off the "shelves." Apparently there was one "puppy mill" in Florida that supplied all of the stores with sick (psittacosis) cockatiels. It serves Petsmart right. They shouldn't sell birds. Period.

They had a similar outbreak a number of years ago. I guess they didn't learn their lesson.

Pet shops just shouldnt sell animals at all, just pet supplies...breeders are the best.

Oh dear. I went into a PetSmart last week to pick up some food for Stewie. The cockatiel cages had signs on them saying they weren't for sale because of "preventative health maintenance"... That's right, they said "preventative."

Just to be sure, I changed clothes as soon as I got home, but is there a possibility that I might transfer something to my bird through my contact with items at the store? (I won't be giving him that toy I bought him there!)
