Birdie Outings!!

Just curious what kind of birdie outings folks take their fids on. I try to take mine out in public once a week. I always meet folks who say 'I have such and such parrot...' But when I ask how often they take their parrot out, they say never. How sad. I can't imagine never letting your parrot see anything but his indoor surroundings.

I've taken mine to my grandmas house & to friends houses a couple times. I'm waiting for their flight suits to get here so I can take them more places. I'm scared to take them out to much cause even though their wings are supposed to be clipped, they can still fly. Especially Romeo. But as soon as the suits get here & I can convince the fids that the suits are a good thing, we're off to where ever the moment takes us. Crystal

I try to take Valo out at least once a week - it seems to keep him somewhat sane
I took him to my favorite coffee shop yesterday, and people just loved him. However, the baby he is, he just snuggles up against me and inspects everyone from a distance. I'm currently trying to get rid of his suspecious attitute towards other people - he's quite a "chewer" when other people offer him their finger
Have a little harness for him, but there's no way to get that thing onto him without a second pair of hands (which I don't have) . Again, the baby he is, he doesn't even attempt to take off though (although I watch closely) - he rather sits as close to mommy as he can.

I took Romeo to a garage sale yesterday. He was very nice to the lady who was all over him. She thought he was soooo cute. She said she baby sat her brothers Africian Grey for a year once & fell in love with him. I told her she should check into to getting a bird & told her about BirdBoard. SHe said after she moves, she just might do that. Crystal

every once in awhile I take Zoey out with me when I go shopping or to my secret meetings. lol Sophie is just now getting comfy with going outside at all! Up untill about a month ago it just flat out scared her to go outside. Now at least when I take her out and walk around the apartment complex she sits there and checks it out. Benji doesn't go outside. he just wants to fly away.

I'm careful about taking her out when it's extremely cold or extremely hot. Chicago just has the most intersting weather. Trips outside of the house are simple things like going to the bank. I try to check the mail with her, but she is terrified of it (yeah, she's a grey) and tries to fly off.

A friend tells me I'm a dork, but I want to buy one of those cat/small dog strollers and use it for my grey. We could go for a walk in the park and show off to all those parents with human babies :)

Shoot, I don't even go out.

I take mine for a walk around the yard every day.

I take my quaker to my mother's every weekend. I also take him on errands where there's not food involved..the bank, the drug store, vacations. I use a small cat carrier to bring him out to the car and then have a cage strapped in the passenger seat where I put him while we are driving. He loves to look out the window. When people ask if I take him everywhere I go, like I'm some sort of dork, I just say that we had to go to the bird store for grooming. Pumpkin loves going outside and getting loads of attention. He is such a ham.

As any of the locals an affirm, I usually have a bird on me at all time. I take them to the post office, bank, Home Depot, park, pre-school, fast food joints (outside tables), nursery and to a lot of family functions. My macaws are the ones I take because they like people and new experiences. My greys would be terrified and my amazon would likely take a chunk out of someone. She's very protective.

It seems the macaws are better designed for shoulder travel anyway. Those long tails help them balance.

Yup, just ask the folks at the video store and the cable office: there's that crazy old bird lady again.

Scarlett goes to school with me every Friday. The students always ask on Thursdays "Is Scarlett coming tomorrow?" She loves getting out and seeing people. I bring her to my parents and sister's house if we're having dinner together too. The neighbors across the street love her and hear her talking to herself (and them) so I bring her out into the front yard often so they can hold her and talk to her.

She is clipped but won't allow me to put a Feather Tether on her. She almost took my fingers and Jeff's fingers off the one time we attempted that. I would love to bring her out to more places but I just can't do that without some kind of harness or whatever on her.
