Flight Suits have arrive! But no takers!

The flight suits have arrive! So if I can now convince the fids that they are a good thing, I can take them more places. I showed Romeo his & he jumped on it! He started rubbing all over it like he was crazy. It was cute. He loved it till I tried to put it on him. He didn't mind putting his feet in but when it come to putting his wing through, he didn't like that one bit. So I stopped, I didn't force him. He calmed down but then he threw up. I didn't try to put it on him again. Maybe tomorrow. What is a good way to get them used to them so they don't mind putting them on? He don't mind when I touch, stretch, rub, etc, his wing. Any suggestions? Crystal

When I first put it on my GCC, he was okay with being placed on top of it, but when it came to the wings, same thing. What I learned to do now is put his feet through, velcro the top, then assist him getting each wing out. The great thing is he bites the flight suit instead of me. He is not as vicious at the flight suit being on as me trying to put on a harness, so I love the flight suit. After the flight suit is on, I give the back end a little tug to make sure it is on good and in place. Sometimes it helps for me to put the velco on loosely then fix it after getting his wings through.

So overall, I get his feet in, velcro him in, then assist each wing out, and tug the rear section for a nice fit. Works for me. Not sure on larger birds.

They are never going to like the process of putting it on them. Once it is on, they will relax and get exited that they get to go places they can't go without being restrained.

I put them on Zoey and Cosmo the way Juli does - feet in, velcro, then help with the wings. (sometimes I have to help with the feet too!) Cosmo is better about putting his on than Zoey. If she sees hers and knows I'm going to put it on her - she tries to fly away - not a happy camper - but once it's on - she really doesn't seem to mind it anymore. They tried to chews their's off for the first week or so. Now they bite it a few times then pretty much ignore them. I didn't have my lanyards when I first started using the suits - so I would put them on the fids, fix them a snack and let them hang out on their cages eating and playing in them. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

I can't imagine any of my fids letting me put one on them.

THanks so much everyone. I'll try that & see how it goes. The thing that scared me was he threw up. I don't want him to choke. He really didn't try to bite hard or anything so thats good. I'll take pics if I ever get it on. Bonita on the other hand does bite very hard so god help me when I try to get hers on. Crystal

i tried a suit with the youngest GW when she was really a baby baby, she hated it, then each week I kept trying while we were visiting with her, i left her alone for days without bugging her with the suit, she hated it each time and seemed to stress. We bring her home .. we try at the suit again, hated hated hated , arrgh i got so frustrated I gave up, now months later Im so mad at myself for giving up but it was so difficult getting it off that it just wasnt worth the bites and her fighting it and screaming.

Good Luck with yours and their suits, I think it gives them so much more freedom to go places. Im jealous Lol

I think it was stress & I had just handfed him about an hour or so before. Stupid me. I tried again today & . He let me put it on no problem. I couldn't believe it. It is a hair loose but its cause he's still a baby. I took him outside & put him in the grass, He didn't like the grass. He just stood there for a minute stairing at it & then start saying step-up, step-up. So I picked him up & we just walked around a bit. He enjoyed it but wanted to be cuddled. After work I'm gonna TRY to get Bonita's on her. I need to find my gloves cause I already know the bites are coming. Crystal
