Is the nestbox attached on the outside of the cage? If so, NO. The lid should not be continually open. They could fly out and get into trouble. Perhaps you can prop it open a little bit with a paper towel so some light is getting in and the mom isn't so claustrophobic.
If the nestbox is inside the cage, no problem. Leave the lid open. Just make sure it can't accidently snap shut and injure or kill your mom and pop.
