Question Cockatiel breeding box

Can anyone tell me why my female will only enter the nest box if the lid is open, the male will enter from the hole.
They now have 3 eggs the 1st egg she laid in the cage and we placed in the box and opened the lid, she has since laid 2 more in the nest box and they are now both going in and sitting on them.
Is it ok for the lid to be continually open?

If thats what works it OK. Just dont bug them much when they are in there on the eggs or they can break the eggs by dancing on them if they get upset.

Is the nestbox attached on the outside of the cage? If so, NO. The lid should not be continually open. They could fly out and get into trouble. Perhaps you can prop it open a little bit with a paper towel so some light is getting in and the mom isn't so claustrophobic.

If the nestbox is inside the cage, no problem. Leave the lid open. Just make sure it can't accidently snap shut and injure or kill your mom and pop.
