never try to kiss your parrot

I know this has been a rule of thumb but what the heck I've been kissing my Amazon for 2 years now. He has never biten me hard until last night.
I was holding my grey in one hand and the amazon in the other. I didn't see the signs coming. I really didn't give him a big kiss it was going to be a peck on the beak when all of a sudden Emily(amazon) latched on to my lip. I now have a hole there and the biggest fattest lip you ever saw. I know now not to handle both at the same time. Stupid me. I didn't even know that Emily was so jealous of my new cag which I've had a couple of months now.

So guys tell me your bite attacks so I can feel better.

If it makes you feel any better, my new CAG has decided this week that he WILL NOT step up at any time and when he is on my arm/hand he BITES ME AS HARD AS POSSIBLE.

Good Times over here too.

SO sorry about your lip! That is my WORST nightmare and I, too, have had a couple of close calls.

I have been bitten on the lip twice. Once was a friend's little Hahns that ran up my arm, bit my lip and laughed. Only bird I ever really detested. Still don't care for Hahn's to this very day.

The other lip biter was my Dreamer, my BG macaw. He really hurt me. He is very bonded to my younger male BG, Sailor, and I foolishly had they caged together. NEVER again. I learned that lesson the hard way. I am STILL finding my blood in the bird room and that was a year ago!

Yep, sweet little Liza Loo has spent "dangle time" on my lower lip -- got the scar to prove it.

I had a CAG latch onto my lip. Normally I make sure a bird's head is restrained before I give kisses, but I let my guard down, leaned in for a quick peck and got nailed. Took a nice sized chunk out of my lower lip that will leave a scar. My own fault and a good reminder to never ever give your face to a bird if you'd like it back in one piece.

For those that like to live dangerously (as I do) consider training your parrots to allow you to restrain their heads before kissing. It's not 100% but it does limit the risks. If I had followed "the rules" the CAG would have grabbed my hand instead of my face... stupid me.

I don't kiss Valo on the beak - only on the back of his head (and underneath the wings and on the belly and on these little birdie feet and and and - but not the beak). And he's fine with it and also very used to that... however, we visited a friend for the first time (who also happens to be the apartment building manager where I live) and while Valo was sitting on her shoulder she tried to give him a little kiss on the beak. Result: he was dangling off her lip
How's that for a good(?) first impression...

I've got to be more careful. I let little Mojo kiss me and vice versa all the time. She has never bit me on the lip hard before but she has given my nose a squeeze and her new favorite thing is to pluck hair from my body whether it be facial hair or anywhere else ( arm, leg, thigh you name it). I guess it's her way of "preening" me lol. Sorry to hear you got it on the lip, hope it heals up alright.

I've never gotten bitten on the lip- but Ollie bit my boyfriend last week! The little stinker acted like she wanted a kiss, then changed her mind and gave him a little nip on his bottom lip. No blood or anything though!
