Do birds sense your emotions?

I just had a bit of a girl moment...lol...I was on the couch with Baby, and I was having a little pity party with myself. I started weeping a bit, and Baby came up to my face, and wouldn't stop preening & kissing....so I was wondering if they sensed your emotions. Like when your sad, happy, mad...etc etc.

Oh and I'm better now....LOL I think it was a menopausal moment

I'm glad you're feeling better.

Togo definitely senses my emotions. She's pretty cuddly anyway (esp. for a CAG), but she gets really cuddly when I most need it.

Great kids, really.

I know animals can sense things . I just wasn't sure to what extent birds did. The dog I had years ago, would always come up to me and whine when I was feeling sad, and he'd run & hide when me & my ex would argue...lol

It was just the first time, I've cried in front of him....lol

Guess he does love me

Yes much research has been done to this very topic. Birds can read us better than we can read ourselves.

I will never forget the day I came home from the hospital after having an out patient surgery. We have a cinnamon green cheek conure. AKA, ball of energy. This bird never stops. If she isnt trying to chew on my ears or glasses then she is trying to climb into my hair to nest and preen. Constant motion . Well after coming in the door from being gone over 6 hours she was full of her usual kisses and yelling at my husband and I to step up. He got me to the couch and then went to take her out of her cage. She insisted on making her way to me and I agreed to try to take her. Would you belive that she sat on my finger of my good arm like a little angel . She never even tried to move. I was amazed that she could tell I was not well. There were no bandages visible but somehow she knew. Birds are truly amazing creatures.

Yes, absolutely. All my fids know when I am having a bad day.

A while back I lost someone very dear to me. I cried my face out and found myself in the bird room alot to snuggle with the fids. My GW (Belladonna) actually laid in my arms and licked my tears. She absolutely knew I was sad and comforted me.

I must say on the record...my dog too knows when I am down. She is right by my side. Animals are very intuitive.

My ekkie does that too. He puts his face on my face and licks the tears. I don't think it is good for them, but since it doesn't happen much, it sure is good for me to have such a caring bird.

omg you guys are gonna make me start to cry! My Ekkie Bodi used to comfort me when things got bad...I miss him sooo much. Prinny does it too, she'll snuggle for hours if I'm feeling down.

Haven't down it around Aggie yet...so we'll see

Of course dogs and birds read us well. Paying attention to the slightest detail is what kept their ancestors alive in a less than kind and gentle world :-).

Cats, though? Maybe they read us--and just don't care! *grins*
