Bird poop vs washing Machines

How do washing machines stand up against bird poop?

I'm getting my home ready for my CAG who comes home in late december and am trying to find a good setup for his/her cage and playstands. If I bought cheap little rugs to sit under the playstand, for instance, would that be something I could throw in the washing machine or would the poop spread out and get clogged and messy?

I realize this is probably a really dumb question and I've already resigned that my carpet will probably go to hell and back quite frequently (yes, I'm a brave woman!) but I thought a little mat like that might help at least somewhat. I'm not a fan of newspaper for asthetic reasons but was curious if a little cheap flat mat or two would be of any use at all.

Why not got to Babies R Us or some other baby store and pick up a splat mat. They go under high chairs for toddlers. I think they will do nicely.

Another thing that works will is a piece of plywood or peg board over the carpet, THEN on top of that, lineolium! Our home supply always has a good selection of remnants, actually, this is how I have my birdroom set up; peg board and lineolium under the cages, the lineolium is also tacked to the wall, it is all very cleanable. I Think it was $15 for a piece of lineolium big enough to accomodate.

Thanks guys! I think I'll check out Babys R Us first for something easy to wipe down. I really wish I could redo the entire home with nice wood or pergo floors, but oh well - that's a someday dream for when I move into a house.

Or go to an office supply store. Get a plastic mat that goes under office chairs.

I went to Target and got white shower curtain liners and have them placed under both play stands. They're very easy to wipe clean. And cheap enough to replace when they get a "little" messy.

Shower curtains also protect walls good ... have them tacked to walls near/by tiel cages .... should work the same for larger birds

Have also used the flannel backed vynal table cloths for walls.... easy wipe down/clean and more sturdy than the shower curtains... will put up turkey ones by tiels for thanksgiving and then xmas ones ... let the fids enjoy the holidays to

I was just thinkng the shower curtain idea might work in my indoor aviary instead of newspapers. Then I remembered we have water restrictions here so we can't hose them down. I guess you can't wash shower curtains in a washing machine?

Shower curtains could easily be wiped down I'd assume.... I actually plan on putting a very nice looking one in my room once I clean off the sheetrock wall!!!! should have gotten it painted before I let the birds get to it!!!

Tara, you can actually buy shower curtains that can be machine washed. I helped decorate my boyfriends bathroom, and we got him one of those so he could just take it down and wash it every couple weeks instead of letting the mildew build up!
