I feel bad about birds having to be in cages at all, so I have always used cages that others think are large. I'm usually shocked to find out what size cage people in my area have their birds in. I just bought new cages for my Umbrella Too and my Sennie for Christmas, and I'm kicking myself for not going a little bigger on both. They aren't in them half the day, but while they are there, I want them to feel as comfortable as possible. My tiels and finches and canary have a nice 12' by 16' sunroom for a home. The bigger, the better.

We are actually getting Echo a slightly smaller cage. I feel that he is still feeling insecure about the largeness of the cage he is in. We will be putting Harley back in her old cage and selling the corner cage.
You can never have too big of a cage! But, the cage Harley will be going back into and the one Echo will be having is plently big enough. Rule of thumb is to get as big a cage as you can!
