Firsthand knowledge of a Vasa?

Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of a Greater Vasa? Looking for information on personality and your experience. Do they remain sweet? Also, do they talk? (This is NOT important to me- but people always ask). We have a Greater Vasa at the store. I want to be able to give proper information on them. The internet is not always the best source. I would rather hear it from those who are owned by one. Thanks!

I can't really say much other than the fact that they truely are WEIRD birds, but oh so unique in their own ways too! I know of Nova, a female vasa at a parrot store. I've got a video of her here...
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/09...t=3ec2a08a.flv

Of course please note, if you view the video, you'll see Nova while she was in breeding mode.... since this video, she has grown back ALL of her feathers... when breeding season comes again for her, she'll again look like she did in the video... and it is completely normal.

I don't really know about diet but I do know that females loose feathers in breeding season.... as mentioned above. I don't know of any specific care involved either.... I could ask the store owner the next time I can which I'm not entirely sure when... I'll probably wait till I get back home...

Thanks, Monica. I couldn't get your video to open, but I do get to see this little one every day. I think he is absolutely adorable. When I tell him it is "sleepy time" and put him in his cage, he actually whines! He has an absolutely adorable disposition, and from what I read on the internet, they are nice birds. I just wanted to hear it firsthand from someone who owned one. The hens lose their feathers on their head and their heads become yellow during breeding season, which is really strange. Anyway, thanks for responding. I have to admit, I am falling in love with this little guy, but I know I cannot have another bird. :(

They are unique and rare birds! I don't really know too much about them since I haven't looked into them as far as pets go, but indeed they do have a unique personality! I'm not sure why the video didn't work, but some have said 'poor bird' thinking she was living in bad conditions and having a "neurotic behavoir" but she doesn't.... I've always noticed her to be a bit strange like that, even when she was younger!

This one is absolutely adorable and very loveable. I love the sounds he makes. Very cute. Melts your heart. And those eyes! They just get me! I guess you can tell I am in love with him. I just want to be well educated so that I can give the proper background on them. From what I have read, the are really nice birds. Do you know if they have the ability to talk?

The vasa is quite good at talking and are big on cuddling. At least the ones I have met are. I fell in love with them too, just couldn't go over how strange the female looks during breeding season. I babies I have helped hand feed are one of the biggest pumpers I have had the chance to hand feed. They pump the little head worse than any macaw thought about. It was like hand feeding a jack hammer.

If ya couldn't get the video to play, you might need the latest Adobe Flash player (to Version 9.0, I believe). My newest system is only a month old and I needed to update the one it had.

Ya can either click on the link to the video in Monica's post again and when it doesn't play, follow the links it should provide...
Or ya can simply CLICK RIGHT HERE to go to Adobe's download page for the newest Flashplayer.

***PS if ya don't want the Yahoo toolbar installed, make sure ya remove the little green checkmark from below where it says "Also install" (See pic below)

I love Phoenix !(the Vasa at the store) He has come a long way in personality and has become very trusting at being held. I want him too! Then there's Stella, the Mynah..: ) I love, love, love all your babies at store : ) If we hit the Mega tonight, they are both MINE!

I'll have to see Stella when I come in next week for parropaloza, but Phoenix is an amazing creature. It's almost as if he has come from another time and place completely.

I found something out about them that they're able to change the coloring of their feathers as well during the breading season. Either this guy is the next step of parrot evolution or it's something of a lost link.

Can someone post pictures of this breed? I am most interested to see what they look like.

I could not open the video.
