Question Advice before I buy

I found a flight cage for about $250... It's pretty big. It's about 37" x 27" x 49"... I have a Cockatiel, I was just wondering if that was too big to be his permenate home. It looks like I can set up all kinds of fun things in there, and plenty of room for lots of branch perches. What do you think? Is it too much for one little guy?

I currently have a white cage that is 30"L x 20"W x 43"H, and currently houses 3 budgies. They don't use up all the space, but they do use up probably the better half of the top of the cage. They enjoy having a LOT of inside room to fly and excersize in!

My silver cage is 36"L x 18"W x 45"H, and currently houses 5 cockatiels. Four of them are a family, leaving 1 odd one out who doesn't get along with everything... even at that, there are times a couple family members have squabbles. Also note though, that these dimension are not square (i.e. the cage top is curved or sloped)

The flight you are looking at, I'd say if it at least has a large door so you can easily clean it, etc, then go for it! Even if it's just for one tiel, I can't say it's too big! Just as long as the bar spacing isn't too big that is! Do you have a picture of the flight?

I saw it in the Dr Foster & Smith catalog. It's model F030 (or UT-22219)
I'm still looking around but it did catch my eye and was in my budget.

Well I tried to look around in my house for a spot for that cage but it was just too big But I did see a couple other cages that would fit. Do these sound like good size cages- 24"x22"x23" or 24"x22"x34"
I really want to find a cage soon, I dropped Pico's cage down stairs .... He was not in the cage at the time, (he was in his cheap cage that I use when I'm cleaning the other).
Also if I ever wanted to get another tiel would those cages be too small?

I say bigger is better for almost any bird. A large cage will give both you and your bird plenty of room to play in. Your bird will love it cause it can move around very freely and excersize as much as they want too! You can have a ball hanging toys, perches, ladders, and any thing else you can think of to keep your feathered friends as happy as possible.

The two new cages you are looking at, I'd say would only be good for one tiel...

I believe I found the flight cage you were referring to.... I don't know how sturdy the legs are (I had an incident before with a flight cage before but it was because the legs and cage itself were separate, so to speak...). If you could ever find a place to fit it, I think it might be okay to use... it does look like it may have two large doors, and if the frame goes down all the way to the legs (i.e. you don't have to put the legs onto the frame of the cage itself) then it's probably good to use! Of course, there are other flight cages available on the market.

The bigger the better just watch the bar spacing. There are 2 bird shows coming the first part of Nov to Georgia. Its a bit of a drive from you but they do have alot of nice cages at them for not alot of money. Thats where I got both of my cages. Its a thought. Crystal

Bigger can be better, however bigger can also cause problems also. cages that are to big can possibly cause your bird to feel insecure, it has to much space around it for it to be comfortable with, and insecurities can lead to other problems. You would be better of buying something that is just right for your tiel rather than to big, something allowing for a flap and an easy climb around.
