Presliced apples??

They sell little baggies in the veggie/ fruit isle of the grocery store that are pre-sliced apples. I believe they put lemon juice or something like that on them to keep them from turning. Are these safe for parrots? I am trying to figure out veggies/fruits on a really small scale for Nemo and am having difficulty. I could slice from the apple and eat the rest..but it is just me and Nemo living here..and I am having some trouble with what foods I can keep down. It has lasted now for a few weeks (for me) and I want to keep trying new foods with Nemo.

Can other suggestions for keeping fruit and veggies from going bad when you have a tiny bird?

Thanks for the help guys.

I think they'd be fine if it's only lemon juice. I'd be concerned that they were using something else though. I only use one slice of apple a day for Quito and Tausi, and all I do is put the apple in a zip-loc bag and throw it in the fridge. Seems to keep fine, sometimes if it turns too brown I slice a little off to get back to the white stuff.

They get most of their veggies from the "kitchen sink" mixture I make. I use some small plastic containers and freeze them. There is enough in each container to last for about three days, so it doesn't spoil after I defrost them. I also use those little frozen corn on the cobs for an occasional treat.

With all the recent problems about prepackaged foods. I would try to stay away from them. Do you have a vacuum sealer?

If you soak sliced apples in water with a little lemon juice, they will keep for a couple of days. What's wrong with slicing up an apple each day though?

My guys LOVE apples but they won't touch the presliced one. Hum? Kind of made me wonder why, so it was enough for me to say no way, I slice my own at the beginning of the week and throw them in the fridge. It's also more cost efficient to do your own.

Well I haven't actually tried it..LOL. I was just thinking that slicing an apple would make the rest turn. And then I wouldn't want to give it to Nemo. I could eat the apple..but I have having some trouble with my stomach myself..and wouldn't want to keep throwing fruits away. I will just cut it and put it in the fridge. Thanks!

I wrap my apple in saran wrap and open it each day to slice a bit off. If it gets a little brown then slice that off and throw it away. The apple stays good for over a week.

I do the same - cut off a slice and keep the remaining apple in a ziplock in the fidge. Works just fine

I do this for several fruits that Ollie gets (pomegranates, kiwi, apple, oranges...), and stuff like peppers also.
