my naked boy
Here's a picture I took of Ducky today. It's a frontal view of my naked little boy who, in my opinion, is the cutest and sweetest little creature in the whole wide world. Despite his breed, he truly is a little love bug and despite his lack of feathers, he is one handsome little birdy boy!

He's too cute! How long has he been 'naked?' Wasn't he a rescue?

He's been naked as long as I've known him. I got him this way. And yeah, he's my little rescue guy. Can you believe I almost didn't take him? I didn't want a bird. Sometimes when I look at him and all his silly antics, I just imagine how much joy I would have missed out on if I didn't take him.
Before he came to me, he had been plucking for years. I show him pictures of severe macaws with feathers and say "see, this is what you would look like if you didn't pluck." And he says "but no feathers makes me extra special for you." ![]() |

The only explanation I have, because certainly I own up to mishandling him when he first came to me out of my ignorance, is that he feels safe and secure and isn't locked up and regulated to a dark corner all by himself. And he doesn't get whacked with a stick when he's naughty which happened to him in the past. So I think Ducky is another animal or bird living in a severe macaw body ![]() |

Aw... Ducky is adorable. Sort of has that Cornish game Hen look going for him I wish there was some kind of bird sweater that could be developed for birds that pluck extensively, mostly for warmth. I'm glad that he's found a safe, loving home. I can't believe someone did that do him as far as discipline and then dumped him in a dark corner. The behavior of some people towards animals boggles my mind sometimes.
It's interesting when I see birds that have been plucked - it's easy to forget how fragile they really are and what their bone structure looks like. I'ts intreseting to see how their feathers grow in - if you see a bird fully pumed, it's easy to kind of assume that they are wearing a puffy, colorful coat. ![]()
