Yeah, I know what you mean and it's good to know that I am not the only one with that issue.

Dog germs

Dogs lick their private parts as well as other dogs privates, they eat crap, they dig in the trash, they will chew on dead things , they lick feet, the floor, drink out of the toilet even if they have a full water bowl, among a ton of other gross things.

You kiss all of the dogs you want but i would never suck face with a dog.(NASTY!!!!)

We have different natural bacterias in our mouth that are harmful to birds. Here's a link that will make you squirm: Common Causes of Bird Infections. Scroll down a bit to read about humans kissing birds.

Kisses in the morning, kisses during the day... kisses for being a good bird... kisses for just being there... kisses to say good night... kisses because she wants some... kisses because you don't want to give 'em....

They are all tongue kisses to. It's near impossible to not get a bit of birdy tongue in your mouth or on the lips if you're living in my house. They just don't take "no" as meaning "no" when it comes to kisses.

Autumn.... That's her favorite thing. She would kiss you from the moment she wakes up till you force her to go to bed. With her sometimes it's actually getting to the point of 'annoying'. I know it's hard to believe and it's really hard for me to admit it. But yes... she will actively seek out your mouth and even dig in sometimes to get her kiss.

It's a game to her if you firm up your mouth and say no. She'll kiss you... then go kiss your ear... nibble on your lobes.... kiss your cheak.... nibble your noise... kiss and nibble at your freckles or facial hair... she'll do anything to get those lips opened or puckered so she can give you a kiss.

I love her to death.... She's my baby. Chucky get jelous and joins right in on the kisses. Skoobie Doo... he wants a kiss just because he can see you.

The only fid yet to not actually give physical kisses (but yet will make kissy sounds if you ask for a kiss) is Franky. But slowly that's changing as well as he's seeing the little ones getting some lip action and is getting more and more curious.

This is such a sweet thread to read thru.

I wouldn't tongue any animal...lol Heck, I wouldn't tongue most people, icks! I do have a funny story though... We have an australian shepherd who is trained not to lick faces (long story involving old people and babies), though he's welcome to lick necks or hands or elbows ...you get the point. Anyway, during a holiday party, my father was popping a meatball into his mouth and at the same moment yawned, and before he could raise his hand to clamp it over his mouth, our dog was up on him in a flash, and tongued the food out of his mouth! My dad was so surprised he fell off the side of the couch, and the dog ran off with his ill-gotten treat. Me? I almost peed myself laughing, and I was the one that had to go reprimand our unrepentent dog! *laughs*

All my hookbills get dry kisses. The tiels on their heads or backs, and Princess on the upper beak. Princess will actively look for them when she knows she has done something well. The Tiels will cuddle up for grooming and kisses, but not as much.

I agree with others about the dogs, knowing what they eat, they are not coming anywhere near my mouth!

Not to mention how easily transmittable parasites such as tapeworms, hookworms and roundworms are!!!! I do not want to do the butt scoot on the rug!!! No dog tongue here either!!!!

I kiss Maxie and Lukey on top of the beak with dry kisses. Maxie does try to tongue me. I try not to let her, but sometimes she gets me! She will be on my shoulder and stick her tongue in the corner of my mouth soo quick! I think the idea of french kissing came from birds.

Dogs do have cleaner mouths than humans. Ask your doc. I got bit by a cat real deep and had to got to the ER. They made me sit for THREE HOURS on an antibiotic drip. I asked the doc hey -whats up with that?! He said well, if you had got bit by a dog I would have given you a prescrip and sent you home but cat bites are bad news THEN he said if you had gotten bit by a HUMAN you would be stuck here even longer and still went home with a prescrip and alot of blood tests,LOL!!! Id rather kiss my dog than my HUBBY!!!

That doesn't mean that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's or a cat's mouth either. What your doctor was explaining to you is the fact that cats carry intracellular bacterium Bartonella, which can cause a human to become VERY ill, very quickly. Therefore, being bitten or scratched by a feline requires immediate, thorough, and prompt attention. A dog does not carry or rather transmit such detrimental bacterials over to humans (excluding rabies). However, they carry many other zoonoses which may cause you to become ill but are not as detrimental as intracellular bacterium Bartonella, which is transmitted by a cat's bite or scratch. Hence, the condition Cat Scratch Fever....

A dog's mouth is NOT cleaner than a human’s. Although a human carries/harbors just as many bacterial organisms in their mouths, we are better protected against them but not of that from a dog or a cat. That is a myth that has been proven time and time again to be false. During my studies in animal science, this very same topic came up and again was discussed and was later further proven to be a myth. While working as a vet assistant for several years, I have openly advised and discussed this very same thing with clients, right under the supervision of the vet. I've not ever been asked this question by people who have purchased any of my dogs but if ever presented to me, I'll advise them this very same thing (and that's in regards to the puppies that I've raised).

It's really not about who's mouth is the dirtiest, as much as it should be about what's in their mouths that can harm you.. All creatures have natural bacterias harbored in their mouths, while they may be okay for them, they may be very deadly to you. Which is the same reason why saliva has been known to have killed some birds or have caused them to become very ill.

I dont care if a dog has a lysol factory in its mouth im not letting a butt licking dumpster diving dog suck face with me or one of my birds (anyone that lets their dog lick them in the mouth is made a butt licker by proxy)
