Bonita & Romeo survived the vet!

They had their appointment today to get a check up & get blood for DNA testing. You would of thought they were dying. Romeo was pretty good with being checked out. But boy did he scream when it was time to take blood. It about killed me to hear my baby like that. Bonita on the other hand, had to be toweled. She didn't want the doc to look at her & it couldn't be because of Romeo screaming cause she went first. Romeo did however snuggle with the nurse after his ordeal. She is the one who held him threw all the bad stuff & said she didn't want him to hate her. The doc said they look excellent. I hope everything else comes back ok. Well, I'm off to the post office to send the DNA cards back so I can see if my babies are boys or girls. Crystal

Aw poor little guys! Blood tests are never fun, even on us people! How exciting to find out what gender they are, I'm still waiting on the results for my baby.

Romeo just sounds like an absolute doll and what a good vet visitor!

Glad to hear everything went well so far and goodluck with all the bloodwork :)

Thanks. The nurse fell in love with Romeo & wanted to steal him. He did look pretty content sleeping on her chest. He is such a good baby. I just hope he stays that way. lol Everyone loved Bonita's colors but was scared to touch her after she tried to bite the nurse. ooop's. She was just scared. After it was all done with, she was ok & was stepping up for the nurse & doc. But she was definitly ready to come back to mommy. lol Crystal

My BF insisted on a DNA test for Valo (I wouldn't have needed one, since I knew it was a boy - motherly intuition?! ), and since we had blood drawn anyways it just got done in one sitting. Valo behaved like an angel - he was snuggeling up in his towel and twiched only slightly when the needle came around. Afterwards he was all nice and cutie-boy... until we came back home

aww! your birds seem soo sweet! shadow will be having a visit to the vet soon too. he needs his nails and wings clipped, and i wanna have a vet do it for the first time because i have never done it myself and i do not feel comfortable.. espically since shadows nails are black and i cannot see the veins... i wouldnt wanna hurt him! we also plan to have him sexed when we go there, although i strongly feel hes a boy, i wanna know for sure!
i know this is definantly something that varies depending on the vet, and that only they could tell me for sure, but how much do DNA tests generally cost?

we paid about $40-50 for the DNA test. I also recommend a general blood test to have a baseline in case your baby gets sick. also, since you're there, have them do a poop test and a general physical....

I sent for the DNA kits (free) & just took the cards with me to the vet when I went. I just got back from the post office from sending them back. It costs $19 each. Its from a place called Healthgene.com You get the results back in 24 to 48 hours (they will call or email you) once they receive the cards. THey also send you papers.
