I was there many years ago, before they redid it... but they still had parrots to feed out on the walkway... I got yelled at for letting them climb on me... the attendant was preoccupied and they had quite a few on one big tree... like six of them climbed aboard me to get fed.... attendant comes running over, you can't HOLD them, they bite!! I just laughed as I pet them as he took them off...

it's a VERY cool place. I have heard, but not confirmed, that they train using the "train hungry method" wherein the bird gets it's main meal at night, AFTER the training is completed during the day. I don't know that I agree with those methods.

Yeah, I'd really love to go there. As long as I lived in Miami, I never got to the old location.

I went and I was completely unimpressed. All the birds in the entire park appeared to be fed exclusively sunflower seeds. Their was a large aviary stuffed to the gills with cockatiels, a big bird bath full of sunflower seeds. An aviary of ringnecks - a bird bath full of sunflower seeds. Every small aviary, sunflower seeds only. In fact, the only birds in the whole exhibit that were not fed sunflower seeds were a gorgeous pair of amazons on loan from someone. Those birds were fed pelleted food the owners insisted upon.

Oh, and the macaws lining the aisles? They get to sit on one perch the entire day, with no toys at all (oh excuse me, one had a *rusty* toy.) and get fed sunflower seeds. None of the birds in thepark had toys, btw.

For a place that has SUCH an opportunity to educate the public on the proper care needed for birds - proper diet, proper environment and stimulation, they fail miserably. I think a member of the general public would come out of there thinking they just need to stick a perch in their house and keep a macaw there day after day with nothing but sunflower seeds.

As you can probably tell from my post, I was pretty disgusted.

It was very interesting to see all the parrots, but I think they really fail to do justice with the birds. That said, I fell in love with the yellow lored amazons and would love to have one in my life.

I was there in June and I was disappointed. I saw one obviously sick bird and one macaw threw her water dish off her stand at 10am right in front of me.
I came back at 11:30 and she still had no water. I went told the staff they said they would get her water, I put a little pebble on the dish came back at 1:00 STILL no water and the pebble had not been moved ( i knew they would tell me she emptied it again. It was a scorcher that day. I gave her water myself and went to the office to throw a fit. They told me they give her water all day and she just throws it, then I told them what I did with the pebble, they got quiet for a minute and then told me I was not supposed to be messing with displays!
I also pointed out the sick bird but I doubt anyone listened. One thing I liked was the Manu Cliffs display.
Can't say I was happy with the park. Busch Gardens takes much better care of their birds. I go all the time and have never found any reason to complain at Busch.

I attached some pics of my trip.
