Decisions decisions.
So I am in the market for a new bird. This time I want a bigger bird. My dad and I are building an aviary in the back for smaller birds and one large bird(Mine). I have visited a store called bird crazy in San Diego. What a great store. I fell in love with three different birds there though. What do I do.
The first is a Blue and Gold Macaw. He is around six months old and is already starting to talk. His tempermant is ok but still nips if you move to fast at him. The second is an Eclectus. What a beautiful bird. Very quiet and looks like a loving bird. The third is already sold but its bread is beautiful. An umbrella Cockatoo which is just such a loving think. Very kind and curious. My main decision has to do with their noise. I live with my two seven year old sisters and a mom and dad who dont neccesarily love excess noise. Out of the three birds I listed, the Macaw was the loudest at the store. If you dont mind, could you guys help me out on this? ![]()

So it sounds like your parents are into this? How old are you? Are you going off to collage soon? Just some things to think about before you buy.
The first is a Blue and Gold Macaw. He is around six months old and is already starting to talk. His temperament is ok but still nips if you move to fast at him. He will bite you one day, hard. He could have the best temperament in the world and still break your finger two years from now. What do you feel about that. Macaws can be very loud and need tons of human companionship as pets. My main decision has to do with their noise. I live with my two seven year old sisters and a mom and dad who don't necessarily love excess noise. Out of the three birds I listed, the Macaw was the loudest at the store. Cockatoos are VERY LOUD at times or at all times if they decide to be. And dusty - do your research. Go too All About Cockatoos - MyToos.com and turn the volume up all the way. Play it about twenty five times and see what your parents say but do it at a time when they dont expect it and are on the phone with a very important call and when your sisters are napping. If they are Ok with that then go get a Too. They are great -I have one. The second is an Eclectus. What a beautiful bird. Very quiet and looks like a loving bird. These are pretty birds but not for just anyone. They do require a specialized diet and you most definatly will need to cook and prepare for them everyday like if you have a child of your own. Females can get testy and dont seem to do well in active families. all these things pertain to all of these birds but Some more than others. Just do a TON of research besides the HUGE Lectures your going to get on this post!!!!!! |

Well as I stated in the first paragraph, my dad and I will be building an aviary in our yard big enough for any of these birds. I am not planning on keeping the bird there all the time but maybe once or twice a week to sleep. I talked to a big breeder and he said it is fine to leave the birds out at night without a heater.

Lol, noise wise you have chosen some pretty noisy birds lol. Really no one can decide which is best for you, there are alot of bias people here lol. It's hard not to be. Just research them, ask people who own each of them and find out which would suit you. Remember these birds live for a long time. My tiel is 17 so you have alot longe to go with your tiel probably. They live to about 25 and the oldest tiel was 36!!! Choose wisely. I am getting an alexandrine because I really want a macaw one day and the alex is known as the poor mans macaw (poor bird) but also I love the personality of the Alexes and thier goofy big beaks. Good luck!!!!!
