Necropsy results & the BEST news.....

Well, the Vet called the pet store this morning.
He told the manager the results of the necropsy. Halo died of a congenital deformation of the digestive tract that resulted in an inability to properly pass foods. The Vet found undigested veggies, fruit & pellets in Halo's stomach. He explained it's why Halo was taking so long to wean. The handfeeding formula was easier to digest & pass than the any of the other foods.
The Vet also told Mario (the manager) that the other 2 Pi couldn't possibly have the same problem or they would be deathly ill or dead already.

Mario told the Vet that most likely Grace would be going home this weekend & could he take a good look at that twisted leg.
One of the vet assisstants arrived this morning & took Grace back to clinic. They xrayed, then she was brought back to the store.

The investigation of the leg showed a healed fracture at the joint of the Tarsometatarsus & Tibiotarsus. The Vet concluded that it was consistant with the typical parental nesting accident - the Mother sat on her when she went to continue incubating the final egg.

Since Monday, Grace's only been given 1 feeding a day & even then she's only taken a 1/4 of a syringe or less of formula before she indicates she's had enough.

Now for the GREAT news!!!!
GRACE CAME HOME TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!

As ya can see she's just relaxin & chillin out on her playset.

Here's a couple of pics of her new home.
3 rope perches, 2 wooden perches, 1 concrete one,
7 cups for foods or water,
and 6 toys she chose herself.
You'll notice the 36" ladder from the floor to the edge of her cage. If she ever winds up on the floor - I figured it'd be easiest on her to be able to get back up to relative safety.

The store told me to weigh her every day (which I planned to anyway).
I weighed Grace last week & she was 187 grams.
Today she's 197 grams.
***EDIT NOTE= I double checked when we got home & she weighted 189 grams on our scale, not 197.

It's still a very healthy weight for a bird that hatched June 2 2006.
If she loses any weight for more than a couple of days, bring her back before the store closes and they will give her feedings when/if she needs them.

I'm very happy right now!!!
