it is ok to clips you bird's nails. Like dogs and cats, you do have to watch out for vein. If you're not sure of what you're doing, I'd suggest you speak to someone who does (breeder, pet store associate, another person with fids). Check other posts, I do believe there has been mention of this in other places.

Cute avatar sugar. I only clip my cockatoos nails because they allow it. I snip off just the teeniest bit and file it down mostly. I've never caused one to bleed because I truly snip off just the smallest amount. For my other 2 I take them to the vet to have their nails clipped and in between nail trims they use a sand perch to maintain their nails a bit. Like Don said I wouldn't recommend cutting them yourself if you're unsure about how to do it but if you decide you'd like to try it you do need to be very careful of the vein and keep some quik stop handy to apply to JUST the nail if you accidentally cut it too short and cause it to bleed.

The first time I had my IRN's claws clipped I was disappointed with my decision.
His nails were a bit sharp and digging into me. The only sad thing was it took him a while to get his footing back and to learn to grab on as I walked. I never did it again.

You may find that sanding his nails weekly will keep the problem under control. Just use a coarse emory board.
