CONGRATS!!!!!! You must take photo's once your baby settles in. ALot of people don't know or don't care to know about what birds need. He would probably feel more comfortable in his cage for now since he is scared. Just see how he reacts torards you. I'm not to good with this kinda thing. Both of my babies weren't scared of me at all & took to their new home right away. I had went to see Romeo every week for over a month before he come home with me so he knew me. Keep us posted. I'm sure one of our P'let parronts will come along & help you. Crystal

Congrats! Love them li'l parrotlets :-).
I'm no expert, here, but I'd be inclined to move him into his larger digs sooner rather than later, provided he's not totally freaked out about everyone and everything. Maybe put one of those bird buddy snuggly things in a corner for him to hide under/snuggle with while he gets used to his new home. Or one of those tent things. My daughter's lovebird LOVES its tent thing.

If you can, put him in a safe spot in your home where he can see what you're doing. Then let him relax on his own for a little. Of course you're going to return again & again to see him & admire him & fuss over him. This will convince him over a short period of time that you come & go & aren't going to eat him. When you go to him talk softly. Read a book beside him aloud or not & hang out.
I imagine that in about a week he'll be very interested in coming out of his cage & hopefully you will have made him less afraid of you & he has started to step-up onto a perch or your finger. Here are 2 web sites that talk about training: 1) http://www.lisashea.com/petinfo/articles/bird_hand.html 2) http://lmkandtux.homestead.com/Rbook4Utraining.html The cage isn't too important at first but you might as well use the new one - I couldn't resist myself. |

congrats on your new parrotlet, i would have also put him straight in his new cage the deeds done then. i normally play blink with my new birds, if hes scared of you look at him side ways (one eye) and blink, all of my birds have blinked back within a couple of minutes of doing this. treat him like you would your budgies talk softly and move slowly. i also put some millet in the cage as they love that, then as he settles in over the next few days gradually cut down on the millet and then use it as a treat for training.
got to say sprout is a great name. |

Congrats on the baby, I vote for "Sprout". The advice you've already gotten is spot on. Get him into his new cage, give him some time to settle, and love him to pieces!
