parrot survives shooting and fire

From the Humane Society news:

The violent shooting death of 3 people and injury to 2 others at a Newark, NJ home over Labor Day weekend also had two other victims-A cat and dog were also shot to death. The house was then TOURCHED. When officials arrived on the scene, the only survivor was an African Grey Parrot, that was perched under a grill on a small back porch. According to the newspaper reporter, her name is Charlotte. She is now ensconced in the Administrative offices where she is with other birds, lots of activity and gets a daily treat of gram cracker and other snacks.

Should anyone want to send a dontation to Charlotte, you can make checks out to, or send donations to the Associated Humane Societies, Inc, P.O. box 43, Forked River, NJ 08731-0043

They have another Grey parrot there named Rocky I send donations in for.
I will be contacting them to see if they need advise to help this grey adjust.

That is so sad that the others didn't make it but at least not all was lost. Glad she made it out. Crystal

Glad the bird escaped! I'm thinking she is probably just relieved to be free from such a crazy scary situation!

Did they catch the murderer/arsonist? I certainly hope so. What a wretched, heinous crime.

I'm glad the bird made it out alive. What is its future? Will it be returned to relatives of the family, or is the reporter/admin office just keeping it for themselves? Has it seen an AV? I'd hate to think what kind of damage smoke inhalation may have done....

not sure of the answers. I do think the caught the person. I remember the story on the news, but did not know about the grey.
Being out on a porch without a cage, makes me wonder if it was even thiers, or if they "found" it.
I hope to get answers from the staff when I call.
