Harry / Harriet (we were told s/he was a Blue Front) has been the subject of lots of speculation. S/he doesn't look like the other BF amazons I've seen, so I've been asking folks for opinions.
Well I think somebody here on BB ("Katebird") has correctly ID'd Harry! Here's the same link she PM'd to me: http://www.avesint.com/images/sale05/6.jpg So you folks can take a look and see what you think. Harry is the first amazon on the left, in my signature line. My thanks to "Katebird"! I've been really mystified as to what type of bird Harry could possibly be.

To me he looks just like the one in your link, Alyce--but I am no way anything even close to an amazon connisseur/expert. Heck, I looked at that other link, and was blown away by just how many kinds of amazons they have on that other site.
So just what kind of amazon IS that bird in your link?

I have a yellow nape that looks like the one in the link. Harry, however, doesn't. He has blue on the front of his head. Yellow Napes don't. He's a hybrid, most likely. Perhaps a BF and a YN cross.

The picture in the link that i sent Alyce is a pure yellow nape. Yellow napes do sometimes have some blue on the top of their heads - just look at my yellow nape. some are just not as prominent as others.
chaco blue fronts seems to have an all black beak from what i've seen. Harry has a beak that looks like it was horn-colored and dipped in black. yellow napes have this beak coloring, as well as the yellow front. as Alyce said, it could be a hybrid, but they usually are sold for much more and a breeder would usually state this fact. i was just searching the web for images and i found that image on the aves international web site and it was indeed given the name "yellow naped amazon". |

katebird:
I've checked out every zoo link and amazon classification and none refer to any blue on the heads of Yellow Napes. As for hybridizing, there are tons of amazon parrot hybrids and they aren't priced any differently than the purebreds. In fact, at this point in time, the gene pool is probably pretty much corrupted across the board. Were your bird's parents wild caught? How old is your bird? Just curious. As for pricing amazons higher, the MUTATIONS are much higher. Especially the blue ones. That of course isn't a hybrid at all. Could you please post a photo of your bird? I'd like to compare it with my hen. Just for my own knowledge. I'm trying to learn all the time and I want to be sure I'm getting the best information. My Yellow Nape is a wild caught hen. She is approximately 26 years old and has her import band.
