hehe. well the gym is all done.. i am still going to be making more toys and adding them on.. for now i put up a few of his favorites in there to make him feel more at home.
i dont really know if he liked it or not.. he went on it, climbed around a little.. but flew off a couple times. he mostly stayed on the plexiglass.. but of course thats where the food was. i think he just needs some time to get used to it.

juli~ didnt you say that yatzi was flying off his at first too? did it just take some time for him to get used to it?

for some reason, shadow LOVES to climb up to the top of his cage and run around.. i try not to let him get up there, because when he does, hes a huge BRAT.. he wont get on my finger and he tries to bite me.. i think he feels more powerful because its so up high...
the problem i am having with a ladder connecting his cage to the gym, is that when he wants off the gym he runs up the ladder and climbs on top of the cage.. i took the ladder down a couple times so he was "stuck" on the gym.. he didnt fly off but he didnt look as happy.

When I was building the play gym for Yazhi, it was always in the same room so he saw it always near his cage. Maybe in the beginning Shadow just needs to see it around to be more comfortable. Just like a bird who is scared of a new toy, best to hang it outside a while before putting inside the cage.

Yazhi flew off his a few times, but it was more of a defiant wants to get to me thing. Now he knows to stay on it because if he flies off, I ignore him on the ground for a while and sometimes just walk away. When I do pick him up I make him do step-ups a few times before I place him back. Let's say 90% of the time now, he won't fly off on his own. He will wait for me to come close to get him and get him to step-up. He has learned how to show me he wants off though. (Hangs at an angle and bounces in a teasing "look I am going to fly" look.)

Definately give him some time. Maybe just let him get used to seeing it. Also, on purpose I made sure Yazhi's cage top doesn't sit higher than the top of my shoulder. No way he is allowed to be over eye level. Also, the top of his cage is the furthest from me when I am in my chair. He wants to be close, so his gym is the only spot closest to me. Luckily, his high tower is that closest point to me on his gym, thus is his favorite place to hang out.

yesterday was a lot better than thursday as far as the playgym goes. shadow didnt fly off of it at all, and he only tried to climp to the top of his cage ones.
i think he just definantly needs to get used to it, he seems to be likeing it better already. i havnt let him play on it yet today.. but its been sitting next to his cage on the floor since thursday.

i was unable to take pics because the battery for my camera was dead.. its charging now. ill try to take some pics today or tomorrow of the finished playgym so u can see
