Prayers for Iris

Hi all....

We need some heavy BB prayers for Iris...our female Iris Lory. She met up with the business end of a Hawkhead and snapped her leg in several places. She is with Dr. McKinley now getting her tiny leg pinned back together. For those who don't know, Iris' are no bigger then a Lovebird, so those legs are very very tiny. She is in surgery right now. Her mate Phoenix as been goin nuts since I took her away from him.

I will keep you all updated.

Jessie

Here is a pic of Phoenix hanging from the window frame

At least you responsibly sought the help of a good vet. Accidents happen and we all feel lousy when its our fault. I sure hope that Iris fully recovers.

Outlaw-

I really hope she gets better....Not just for the reason that she is a sweet, loving living feathered kid. But also because this species is extremely rare in US Aviculture and losing just one (especially a hen) would be a blow to the species.

I am the type of person that will bring my birds in if they have a hangnail. And, my vet is 2 hours from here. There are closer vets but they are not Avian Certified. I love my birds and for a surgery as delicate as this one, I would not entrust this to any old vet.

Jessica, Mc Kinley has been around a LONG time, and he is a knowledgeable vet. (he's about 10 minutes from me)
Your baby is in good hands.
Let us know how she is....and from here.

Lisa-

I trust Dr. McKinley. I know he will do his best to help Iris. I used to use Dr. Weiss when I lived in south Jersey and I know a lot of people dont always care for his gruffness. I liked him. When we moved to the Poconos, it was just too far for my to travel. And, there are no good bird vets here in the Poconos.

I will keep you updated.

Jessica

Well, I just got a call from Dr. McKinley.

Iris made it through the surgery okay. She took a long time to wake up from the anesthic (which was a concern) and is not taking to the splint too well. They were unable to pin the leg cause she is too tiny. But, she made it through and I am going to get her now.

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes.

And, I will keep everyone updated on her progress.

Jessica
