More macaw questions.. bf is sooo busted

I just got off the phone with the pet store..... with the owners daughter.... asking more questions about the B&G baby...

BF left about an hour ago ... to go check on rear brake caliper for his Harley.... yeh right ... he is at the pet store lovin on the baby ... has been visiting at least twice a week for the past month.... he was worried that the baby was upset because he did not hold her yesterday when I was with him...
the stalking parrot baby was USE to being held by BF and was missing him..

Now I know why he would not let me see lists .... he has been asking questions at the store for the past 3 weeks

BF is sooo busted on this one.... owners daughter is not going to tell my bf he is busted .... I'm not going to let him know (for now) either....

OK ... have several questions now....

I seems that the baby is only occasionally taking an evening hand feeding ... 5 - 10 cc and does not want the evening feeding on the days my BF "visits"... so are these just comfort feedings???

The baby has not been DNA ... but several breeders that have seen the baby thinks that it is female.... what is the attitude difference between male and female???

The asking price for the B&G baby (6 months old...they have her? hatch papers) is $1500 ..... with large playstand, toys and a bag of food that the bird is presently eating ... is this price reasonalble/correct ???

Trying to think this all out before I go and hold/play with the baby tomorrow am....

One of the reasons I called pet shop ... was to find out if the B&G had a problem with any particualr color after reading the thread about parrots and color earlier.... she? does .. purple... my favorite color ... will just make sure that I'm not wearing any purple tomorrow.....

BF has all him fingers still ... so I guess the baby will not eat mine..

Just have to keep thinking ... slow and gentle.... that's the ticket...

Price...NO. B&G sell for $650-$900 at bird shows, high end breeders maybe $900-$1,100. I would tell them to knock off $500 and keep their playstand and bag of food (Playstands you can get for $100 or so)

In Maryland, you'd expect to pay about $1100 to $1200 just for a newly weaned baby macaw. By the time you add a playstand and cage, you'd easily hit $2,000.

I looked up the large play stand that is coming with the baby .... $400 - $600

I could problably get a B&G baby cheaper... but ... the connection is there between this one and BF....

Still have not made solid decission yet ..... but I'm leaning hard towards yes at this point....

Will be going to pet store tomorrow am ... plan on interacting with baby ...

Will sleep on this after that ... before I make a solid choice.... and give up $.... pet store has agreed to take payments ..... on fixed income this is a BIG decission ...... even doing payments along with buying a large cage (want to get the large double macaw cage from Joel... just not use the divider) will just about wipe out the money that I have been putting aside to build/pour foundation for a polebarn that we planned on starting this spring....

What the heck is a polebarn????????????

A large ... usually 2 story (with hay loft kinda thingy)... barn ... usually made with poles for the corners and main supports..... was planing on having a 20 x 30 foot concrete slab 6 inches thick ..... with telephone poles as corner and main supports.....

then barn raising party during summer ( after we saved up again for lumber) to finish..... have upstairs for storage ( and to put bf in barn instead of dog house at times ) and the bottom divided into 3 areas...... one for mechanic/motercyle shop ....... one room to put 2 freezers .... one upright and one chest ...(so I can get darn things out of dining room ) and almost half for multipurpose..... with lean to top on side for garden/yard tools and lawnmower, tiller etc....

I live in the country ... on a dirt road....( in the "sticks" ... that is why place is called Stickville ).. the nearest pavement is about 1/4 mile away... I live on/own 2 1/2 acres ....have a well for water, septic tank for sewage and get tv by sattalite ..... yes places like this still exist ...... almost half is landscaped .... also have fenced veggie garden.... 75 ft by 45 ft ...... have only been growing half at a time this year ... and letting the other lie fallow with a green manure crop growning .... and periodically tilling green manure in to improve soil.....

Take alot of stuff and tools to keep things going and working... tiller, lawn mover and garden tools don't work real well when left out in the rain..... need place to store all this stuff .... and get freezers out of dining room so I can reclaim .... my house from the "stuff"....

And possibly have more space for bird stuff/cages/stands.....

That was the idea anyway...

I think that the price from a petstore is reasonable for what it comes with. You have to think that retail prices are raised. You could go through a breeder and get cheeper but sometimes you make a connection with a bird at the petstore and you eat the exspense. Thats what happend to me TWICE! lol

I say to go for it, sounds like you are doing your research which is great, make sure you get the BIGGEST cage possible, and lots and lots of toys.
