Thumbs up flock of quaker parrots on the loose-maybe not

I drive for a living so I see a lot of different things out there including gators, deer, hogs and many other different animals out there on the road.
Yesterday I heard a familiar squawk and that was a flock of quakers flying above me and landing in the trees across the street from where I was at.
I thought to myself wow they are just like sparrows or black birds living a natural life. In no way shape or form were these parrots suffering. There was probably around 30 in this group. It was located in Pasadena, Texas. Still warm and comfortable here. Its around 75 in the heat of the day cooling to 50 at night. I heard there are many parrot breeders in the area so its no brainer. I'm sure there are parrot and bird lovers in the area that provide food for them because they looked healthy to me. Their flight was strong and natural. No clipped wings here. This is not the only spot I have seen them. About 15 miles south from where I was I have seen them closer to the bay. This was a different flock I'm sure. Again I'm sure its the same issue where somebody either turned some loose or they escaped. Now it seems as if they are breeding in the wild located in the city of Pasadena.
Now last week I saw a cockatiel fly right above me around the Hobby Airport(Houston) and I was worried about him because he was by himself. Not good.

I thought I'd share that discovery with you guys.

Sandy

The Tiel has to be someone's escaped pet, I hope they catch him and get him back home! The wild Quakers know what they are doing, they'll be fine.

I agree with Tiki, the tiel could be someones pet... As far as two flocks of quakers... what if they were one and the same? Parrots in the wild fly for MILES around their nesting area, so why wouldn't it be the same flock???

The wild flock of Cherry Head conures that live in San Fransisco have even been spotted ACROSS the bay... which doesn't surprise me!

Well, you never know it might be the same one. If it is it certainly has grown.
The one I've seen by the bay which is 20 miles south of this one only had around a dozen or so in that flock. I'm kinda of hoping its a different flock because that only means more of a population.

I Live in Rhode Island right on the water and we have hundreds of wild quakers here. They have built nests the size of small cars in the trees and some a little smaller at the tops of the telephone poles. They have adapted to our weather with no trouble at all. We see temps in the 100's in the summer and temps in the -10's in the winter. Rain,sleet,hail,snow,wind...you name it, they have adapted to it. They can be a little loud at times but they are beautiful to watch. They got here from an accident at the airport across the water in the 80's and have been thriving ever since. They can now be spotted about 2 miles inland from where they originally nested. The only downfall to the situation is you can not own one as a pet if you live in our city . Although they do sell them right across the border in Massachusetts .

Hi- we have several flocks of wild quakers here in Sarasota. In fact, we work closely with The Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary because whenever a baby falls out of the nest or a nest is cut down when they trim the palm trees, people often bring the babies to them. Unfortunately, it is against FL law to rehab and release them, so they turn the babies over to the Florida West Coast Avian Society Rescue Room and we adopt them out after being vet checked. Last year, we placed quite a few and we have a young one in the Sanctuary now that needs a forever home. These little guys really talk up a storm and are fun to have around. So far, I've resisted..... Gini
