Question What do you use for liners? and question

so i was just wondering what everyone used for there liners under there grate thing?.?.

I have seen those sheets of paper of like 500 that you can just pull one off every other day or so...you use those?

also.

i have had an idea (oh know!!! ) of over lapping layers of plastic wrap (the sticky kind) to make a sheet you can just pull up easily with out getting stuff underneath. i have tried and it works great. what do you BB peopplethink? safe? not safe? i have a grate over top so he can't get to the plastic...hmmm

I just use plain 'ole newspaper. It's cost efficient. I think that our idea of the plastic wrap is brilliant. However, it cost.

Oh, so you're putting the pastic over the papers?
I put the papers in the bottom part of the cage, underneath the grates. My bird's can not get to the newspaper and we've not had a problem thus far nor have I heard of any.

I use News paper too. Actually I use the news paper that you can get for free from the stores that have their ads and auto sales and such in them, plus most of those papers made out of 100% recycled paper (as apposed to a typical news paper who is maybe 60% to 80% recycled paper) so it helps the environment too. So No Cost is my preference.

I do not encourage bidry litter as litter is just a breading ground for bacteria and bugs (mites, ants, etc...) in my humble opinion. Not to mention litter is harder to maintain and change than just plain old paper and is way, way, WAY more expensive than a free newspaper ad.

AS for your idea, are you refering to "fly paper"? Basically a tacky glue that holds the the wasted food and poo onto the paper so that you could just pull it out and toss it like without the mess of the waste falling everywhere?

It's a great idea, however I don't think it would work well with anything other than small birds - parakeets and lovebirds, etc. But for medium (cockatiels/conures) to large birds/parrots, the waste is just too much, not to mention the difference in what they eat is so different in many cases. (or are my birds just more messy than others?)

What I would like to see, would be a waste pan that has a spool of paper on one side is perfectly the width of the waste pan and on the other end an electronicly timed timer that would roll and pull out fresh paper every day for me into waste reciever that would collect all the waste that was on the paper the day before as fresh paper rolled out. Of course the paper would be little more than recycled news paper (no need for print quality paper here, as it's basically poop on paper for your fids).

It's actually a simple concept, if I had the money to develop it, I would and market it. It would eliminate one small hassle from my day to day routine. Plus I'm getting old and bending over to the floor to grab the waste pan and slide it out to get the waste paper day after day and getting it all cleaned up and putting fresh paper in again is getting
"old".

I would buy one of those if they already existed. It would benefit both myself and my fids (especially if I had to leave them home alone overnight).

Basically a setup like the picture I just attached that would replace the waste pan below my cage. (I'm sure it's a confusing idea, even with the picture.

Not safe.--not even if you *think* he can't get to the plastic. You'd be surprised at how creative birds can be sometimes to reach something that is just out of reach. The plastic wrap is made with nasty chemicals. Besides if the bird managed to get some of that, it could wrap around him and entrap him. You might find him too late to save him.

It reminds me of the sticky tape to catch flies. I've heard horror stories of birds getting caught in that sticky tape and losing their lives. The plastic wrap isn't much different. So nix nix nix to plastic wrap. Use paper towels or newspaper. That's been proven safe, even if they shred the heck out of it.
