Unhappy sniffle

Oh my goodness I’m getting so impatient waiting on my little Timneh to arrive at the pet store. (sniffle)

I have always wanted an African Grey as long as I can remember. And now I am for sure getting one. I’m on a waiting list at our local (very reputable) exotic pet store. I’m so excited I can’t stand it! It will not be until next January or February until my baby is even hatched!! Then it will be another 6 months after that until I can take him home. The pet store I’m purchasing from keeps it that long to make sure he is completely weaned. They also want buyers to come in pretty much every day to socialize with the bird. They say this way the bird will know you and will become bonded with you before even taking him home. I do think this is an excellent idea. However my patience is growing shorter each day!

In the past couple of months I’ve been preparing for my little one. I purchased a HUGE cage and several toys. I am just sure that my TAG will be in heaven in this cage. I don’t know the exact dimensions but it could easily fit a macaw.

I’ve been researching like crazy! I even started making a TAG binder with all the information/facts that I find. I’ve found tons of great recipes and suggestions on toy making that I’ve printed. I REALLY like the “hoop ball”. Genius idea! I will soon be making one of these.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can keep myself busy while waiting on my birdie? Anything else I should purchase?? Recipes. . . . toy ideas. . . . bird proofing your house ideas. . . . just anything really.

Well it’s off to sitting in my living room and staring at my big empty bird cage wishing that I had my Timneh.

Oh how wonderful for you, and very nail-biting at the same time! The time will go by so very slow but once he's hatched & you get to go see him every day it'll be better! Have you bought the cookbook "The Healthy Bird Cookbook: A Lifesaving Nutritional Guide and Recipe Collection by Robin Deutsch"? It's an awesome book & one I would definitely recommend. As for bird proofing your house, I would do it just as I would for a child. The binder you're talking about is a great idea! You're doing such a good job aleady & he's not even born yet! You're on your way to being a geat parront!!

You can get it from Amazon for not quite $11. It has many different sections & a lot of nutritional info, not to mention LOTS of recipes. The one I most want to try are the waffles they have in there, not just for Bud, but for me too!! they sound really really good!

This time last year, I also went on a waiting list for a TAG. We went in to the store often to handle other birds, so we could get the hang of tolerating a good bite and being pooped on! We learned to handle so many birds this way and we knew we would be ready when our TAG came home. If it was a girl, it would be Isabeau, a boy probably Stone. Just before xmas, the baby Goffins came in. I kept going back just to see these birds. One picked me! After a few visits I took note of the band number to ask if it was sold. "Nope!" I was told "SHE is available!" After a few more visits, she was still available, so on xmas eve I went in to get her. Her name is Afa (ay-fah) and she lives happily ever after with me! Needless to say, my name went off of the waiting list for the TAG, but I wouldnt mind having one! Next best thing..I rescued a CAG in July!
