Molting

I assume Nemo is going through a molt because he looks rather scruffy and is losing feathers. I have searched and searched for info on molting..but can't seem to find any. How long does the molting process last? Any one know of a website to read on molting? Or have any general info they could provide to me? Thanks

Joanne,

Here are pics taken some time ago last year when Chuckie went through a molt. In the first pic where he is on the Parrot Tower you will see his feathers look ragged, his belly had a small bald spot & the coloring is not as vibrant. In the second pic (granted different lighting) you will see how vibrant the blue & green has come in when he completed his molt.

It is normal for some to look unkempt. Lots of baths, veggies & protein will help Nemo turn into a beautiful butterfly when the molt is over. Parrotlets molt quickly so it won't be as long as say my Congo Grey Max.

boy o boy do I feel your pain! Ive got 4 going all at once! My house looks like someone came in and had a pillow fight and threw baby powder everywhere. I vacuum, swiffer, you name it...5 minutes later, its the same way! Im keeping them moist, more frequent showers, have the humidifier cranked up. Since Ive added Red Palm Oil to my CAG's diet, he's not so bad. Its the Galah that is the worst. And my G2 has a million pin feathers but at least the cranky stage has passed!

I think Parrotlets go through the worst molts and look the worst during molting (except for Ekkies who just get bald spots all over the place).
