My rearearch on the Red Palm Oil was mainly focused on my Grey beause he was overpreening. The palm tree that this nut comes from grows in West Africa so its a big part of their diet in the wild. I have been feeding it to all 4 of my fids and they gobble up whatever its cooked in. Its a semisolid oil. Meaning if its not heated it looks like an orange paste. The bottle says to heat the whole thing up to use it and a little goes a very long way. Heres what I do. Ill use the handle part of a spoon and scoop out just a little say a pea size amount, and add it to whatever Im cooking. For instance Asian Medley which I get at Bird Paradise. Its a bunch of beans, grains, pastas, veggies. plus I add a few more things, like extra pasta or peas, mix in the oil and serve it up with Avina Trio sprinkled on top. They all eat it. I would say though, that the smaller the bird, the smaller the quantity added.

Thank you. I'm placing an order now at BP for a bunch of the items recommended here to try out including the Avian Trio.

They don't hold their food, so I would place it in their cups whole. The little garbage pails that they are, they would eat almost all of their fresh food! I also gave them - once week - a treat of Boca Nuts which they promptly devoured.
DUH!!! Disregard this post above. It was my alter-ego doing it. She's rather stupid and didn't read that we were talking about a grey here. Where she got Parrotlets is beyond my imagination.

It is a totally wonderful blend of foods!!! I know there are a couple different types of pellets along with human grade fruit, veggies and herbs. Most people that I know that feed it to their birds say that their birds love it. It took a little bit of time here in my house for them to get used to it. But, I have close to empty bowls daily. I leave it in their cages throughout the day, and they love it. I can't get over how good it smells, too!!! Almost makes me want to try some myself!!! If you're in New Jersey (or close by), I'd definitely say, get over to Bird Paradise to get yourself some! If you're not close by, ORDER IT!!!! And then take a vacation so you can come to Jersey to check out Bird Paradise!!
Thanks, Don!

Seed mix/Joanne

My vet recommended Harrisons seeds..but then checked out their website for me and found that the only seed they offer is for wild birds. Can you purchase the seed in the store or do you get it online? All I can find in the pet stores near me is the Kaytee..and something in a bin..but I don't think that is a good idea. Is it? I was just going to ask this question!

Joanne :0)
Joanne, I also have 2 parrotlets and they get ABBA 1200 or 1300 plus Volkmans for Parrotlets. They like it and I also like to bulk it up with other tyes of pellets. They're not big on pellets though. I know you have to be careful with pellets on mutations because it causes health problems. You can PM me and I can tell you the parrotlet group I belong to. They have also been wonderful with helping me out!!!
Good luck!!!

Thank you everyone for helping me out here!!! I just placed an order with Bird Paradise for their Ultimate blend, Safflower Gold and I thought I'd give the Boca nuts a whirl.
I will make my list for everything else you guys suggested!!!

When I got Merlin I don't think he was on the best diet since the guy told me he was giving him "ya know, the basic parrot mix". Melin is also missing a bunch of chest feathers so I am HOPING, HOPING, HOPING, he will let the new ones grow in. He doesn't even have downy feathers on his chest. Poor guy!

Thank you again!!!
