I like that idea Tara, heres what you do. Take a dozen chicken eggs with a black marker, write B&G, Scarlet, U2 ect....then sell them to those people with no refunds or guarantees that they hatch!!!! Betcha my bottom dollar they won't order an egg from anyone ever again!!!

Jessica -- I don't know how you keep your cool w/ the e-mail inquiries about the eggs! That would drive me plain crazy.

I've been involved with horses for years. You'd be amazed at the foolish people out there in that regard. They or their child takes a few months worth of weekly lessons and end up buying a weanling, thinking that the human and horse will bond better through training. Yeah. Sure. Read all the Monty Roberts or Pat Parelli you want but THAT doesn't make you an expert. Poor horse usually ends up neglected after all attempts at training have failed.

And don't get me started on the people who want to buy unweaned puppies and kittens for the same reason...

Don't get me wrong -- I loved watching the chicken eggs hatch in the incubator in preschool. I loved nurturing the orphaned birds and mammals of various native species that I cared for at the refuge. That doesn't make me think that I'd be better off ordering an egg to hatch myself!

I think that you are going about things properly. Putting the disclaimer up on your site will help. Some people really are just clueless... but others just want to do what they want to do, regardless of the possible consequences.

People aren't educated in the parrots, dogs, horses or anything else. That's exactly why internet boards are so popular. Its up to us to teach them. Its often frustrating, for sure, but somebody's got to do it.

I don't know if any of you get BirdTalk magazine but there is someone that advertises in BirdTalk to start your own business by buying fertile eggs and raising them. I thought it was terrible that a magazine like BirdTalk would even accept advertising like this and this is probably why breeders are getting so many calls for eggs.

OO this made me so mad . I swear while I was reading it, i was thinking of Pet Rocks or those commericals for the products sold at Christmas where you water them and hair ( grass ) grows on their heads and oooooo I could spit nickels right now. I dont breed, I dont know alot about my beautiful babies, but i do know that those emails would make me sooo mad. do people not think before they write, do they sit at the dinner table and say to their spouse, OO Honey, tomorrow I'm going to go out and buy us an egg, we can watch it till it hatches and then presto, out will pop a full grow Macaw ( for the lack of any other bird, this one came to mind) .. the macaw will know tricks and have a great vocabulary, it will make us famous and we will go on the Jay Leno show with him ... OO thanks for letting me vent after reading this.

Some people are just born " not to bright ".

You know- I am so glad you guys support my views here. Thank you. With the pandemic of stupidity upon us, I felt this was something that needed to be addressed. But, I also am a firm believer of educating (or at lest attempting to) people that perhaps do not know any better. I really believe that a lot of people think Parrots are like chickens....hey, out pops a fully formed chick that eats on it's own and requires next to no care.

~And, as for Bird Talk, what the hell are they thinking? Has anyone complained? I no longer subscribe so I didn't see it. Otherwise I would have blown an gasket.
