Question Egg Food/"Universal" Food?

Ok, here's another "back in the day" question. Bird keepers used to swear by "egg" or "universal" food as a general preventative/supplement/treat food for birds of all ages. Every breeder I knew as a kid kept it on hand at all times. I saw a commercially prepared egg food at the pet store this weekend, read the ingredients and decided to get some for Buster. My cockatiel handbook recommends it but I've noticed that in the discussions on food held here on the board for the last week, no one has mentioned it. Now I'm second guessing myself. What are your opinions on egg food? I'm thinking about feeding it no more than twice a week along with her regular food.

Thanks!

i feed shadow "birdie egg biscuits" for treats sometimes. he LOVES them. he likes them more than fresh cooked scrambeled or hard boiled eggs... which he gets a lot too

It was recommended to me as a good treat for my li'l zebra finches. I give it to them in one of their dishes a couple of times/week. Don't know what it's supposed to do for them, but they seem to like it :-).

I believe it is used more for canaries and finches. We have it at the store and keep it with the finch and canary foods.

quiko make an egg supplement food for all birds, too. they also have one for just canaries and one for finches. quiko has an emerceny packet for sick or stressed out birds. it has alot of vit/mins and electroloytes in it. i put it in my birdie bread, scrambled eggs(i only put just a tad in it). the birds like it, it has honey in it so it is on the sweet side.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'd love to hear more if anyone else wants to contribute. I bought the Quiko brand for all birds last Sunday. I noticed that they make three or four different formulations depending on the type and age of the birds. Kent gave it to Buster in her "hand breakfast session" this morning and she ate it right up. I was surprised because she is very picky about her food, although she will eat almost anything if it comes from our hands. The food contains a good amount of protein, vitamin supplements and probably too much honey;) but this is a supplemental thing only to be fed about twice a week.
