need help with cage paint

I need to paint a large macaw cage. I got some spray paint at Lowes and the guy there said it would be the best for birds because its for tough industrial use, fast drying and rust resistence. Do you think this would work, or is there a different alternative paint?

Rust-Oleum
Professional

High Performance Enamel

Fast Drying
Excellent Coverage
Tough enough for industrial applications

And it doesn't containg any lead.

Therse are some of what I think the ingredients are and the numbers along with them that I have no clue what they mean

2-Butoxyethanol 111-76-2
Acetone 67-64-1
Methyl Ethyl Detone 78-93-3
Xylene 1330-20-7
Barium Sulfate 7727-43-7
Magnesium Silicate Hydrate-Talc 14807-96-6
Propellant 68476-86-8
Alkyd Resin Mixture
Ethylbenzene 100-41-4
Carbon Black 1333-86-4

We have painted many a cage for our rescue. Only one cage have I tried rust-oleum only as a base paint, let dry in sun for 3 days, then painted over with Krylon. I have not put a bird in it as of yet, I am a little concerned because have never used it. Also good cage preparation, like sanding etc, and then using Krylon would work great.

Any childrens paint is safe, one thing is always let dry throughly. Just make sure you let dry 3 days between each coat and then throughly before you put a bird in it.

I only use paints deemed Child Safe and yes - all paints are dangerous until completely dry and "cured".

as long as your bird isn't a paint eater Krylon will work. When seeking safe stuff, as babies usually don't chew off the paint (they just lick it ) baby safe is as close to bird safe as it gets. Last year I went looking for "bird safe" extensively and didn't get a "yes it is" from anybody. Of course as time rolls on things change.

but, no matter WHAT you paint with, the birds WILL chip it off at some point. I don't know WHAT I'm going to be doing with my sometime in the past painted white cage-maybe re-paint it?

We used a led free paint, I think it was rust-oleum or krylon. I've heard that child safe paint is good. There is something that you need to look for in paint that is bad, I'd have to ask my husband. He's outside tinkering with the seadoo. I'll ask him and get back to the thread.
