Seems like a great price for a gouldian, Dana. I think at shows around here they go for about $80-ish (Deb could confirm), and $100 or so at bird stores. They sure are gorgeous animals. Reminds me of saltwater fish--they always look like someone took a paintbrush full of bright colors to them.

Conures
Noel; Cherry head - $0
Charlie; Mitred - $0

Cockatiels
Casey - $15??? $25??? (she was a gift that I guess I bought myself before I even knew about her?!)
Pisatchio - $0
Kiwi - $0
Kirby - $0
Sunshine - $0
Tomi Girl - $0

Budgies
Smurf - $0
Sophia - $5
Georgia - $5

Eldest Bourke - $0
Youngest Bourke - $0 (I had both of the bourkes parents at one time, with one of their daughters... They bred once here which resulted in chicks of course-youngest bourke is one of the two chicks)

All birds sept Sophia, Georgia, Casey, and youngest bourke have been rehomes. How much have I spent on them? Hundreds. How much exactly I do not know as I haven't been keeping track. I know alone, I've spent $204 on the youngest bourke this year. But that doesn't include cost of toys, food, perches, etc.

Gouldians are $15-25 here, maybe some rare mutations would be more.

That's so cool, Tara!

I'm curious, though--I know you say that macaws are over-the-top expensive. Is it because there are so few of them, there? I know you guys don't really allow imports or exports of birds nowadays, so, if there are very few macaws there, do you all have problems with the kind of things that come from a limited gene pool?

And, for Dog's sake--what would a Hy cost there, if they average $10K over here? I shudder to think! :-).

I would hate to know the price of a hyacinth in Australia!!!! To be honest though, I haven't heard of one IN Australia, so indeed that would be a curious thing to know!

I've never seen one for sale either. If anyone has them, it is probably just zoos or something. There are very few Macaw breeders here and it seems to be a closed market.

I love Gouldians. I have 3 of them at the moment. Did have more, but an ex dog of mine raided the aviary a few years ago and released 8 of them it was devastating. But I picked up a pair for $80 and one mutation for $20 from the RSPCA. I saw the same mutation at a fair for $150
