How much for that birdie in the window?

You guys over in the States are so lucky to be able to get yourselves such beautiful birds like the Macaws and the greys. How much roughly are they to buy in the States???? Over here for a Macaw its at least $6000-$8000 and I believe roughly the same for a grey.

Way way way out of my league! Saving up for a $750 ecclectus is proving difficult enough!

I've seen greys (both Timnehs & Congos) priced from $900 to $1400.00, depending on the breeder or store. Same with eclectus (most often SI, vos and grand).

I'm not sure what macaws go for... I *think* that Hys go for close to $20K.

Hys, when available on the east coast usually sell for about $8,000 to $10,000. The problem is the waiting list is quite long.

BGs sell for about $1100, Greenwings for about $1600 and Scarlets for about $1800.

Eclectus parrots usually sell for about $1,000 as do Congo greys and many of the larger amazons.

The mini macaws usually sell for $600 to $1,000 depending on the species.

wow.

the pet shop wanted $599 for our sennie. we told them we wanted a better deal, and she had been there so long they really wanted her to go to a good home. so they gave us a deal. we ended up paying $680 for casper and all of her equipment and food. :)

Prices from local bird shop on some birds...

Congo African Greys $999.00
Timneh African Greys $799.00
Senegals $399.00
Meyers $399.00

Blue/Gold Macaws $1200.00
Greenwing Macaws $1800.00
Scarlet Macaws $1800.00

Moluccan Cockatoos $2000.00
Umbrella Cockatoos $1299.00
Medium Sulphur Cockatoos $1400.00
Lesser Sulphur Cockatoos $1200.00
Bare Eyed Cockatoos $999.00
Goffins Cockatoo $999.00

Sun Conures $425.00
Gold Capped Conures $399.00
Green Cheeked Conures $225.00
Fallow Green Cheeks $299.00
Quakers $199.00

So you see, yes we can get some birds for great prices, specifically South American birds. However, cockatoos here aren't so cheap! On top of that, what you guys have to pay for a macaw, we'd be paying that much and more for a black cockatoo! Gang gangs aren't even available here.

Yep, you can get them for much lower from breeders than in shops.
Also, rehomes and adoptions are another option. There was a B&G for adoption near here for $300!!! But that's rare, of course!

Suppose so, guess we can pluck a cockatoo out of a tree in the backyard for free! Not that we do!! Though most would rather shoot the little buggers! (not me, love em) Cockatoos here range from $50 for a rescue to about $300-$500. Have flocks and flocks of them here! cool seeing a hundred or so sitting in a tree, but not so great when they are sitting on your roof pulling your house apart!

Galahs are funny. The free loaders turn up at about 4pm and sit up on the telephone lines waiting for a hand out. When it rains the flip upside down on the wires with their wings stretched out! So cute to watch.
