I Feel The Love

I am sitting here typing with one hand as I cradle my precious bundle of feathers with my other hand. Pita is nestled under my shirt, on his back, sound to sleep.

I have had cats & dogs, and loved them dearly. But, to have a bird, something that never really looses thier wild instinct, allow you to share your life with them, is truely an amazing thing.

I look at him, and I am truely touched, by the amount of love & affection that this fragile little bird gives me. I don't think my heart has ever felt so loved before. It is truely a priviledge that they pick us as thier flock buddies. It's like nothing I ever felt before.

I'm new to being owned by a bird, but I will never, ever, look at birds the same again. It's an emotional kind of joyous love, and I just wanted to "try" and put what I am feeling right at this moment into words.

It's a truly amazing, awe-inspiring feeling, isn't it? Nearly impossible to put into words, but all of us here knows the feeling, I'm sure :-).

I would love to print your post and carry it with me. People who are not "owned by birds" cannot understand what a beautiful thing it is. I'm sure you will hear time and again "it's just a bird - what's the big deal - you can't cuddle a bird." I used to become defensive; now I just smile and think "they are the ones who are missing out."

I agree....it's a privilege. Whoever says a bird can't cuddle, has never been cuddled by a bird. Or preened, or kissed, or shared food, or had those annoying little pinchy love bites, or had something thrown at them because you weren't paying attention to them....lol Pita just stuck his head out and gave me a kiss, and now he's back under my shirt. It's a beautiful thing!

I have sent that "Just a bird" poem to all my friends!

You've got it down Gbird, nothun like it! When Puff cuddles, and he does is constantly, it melts my heart. Can not be described to those who do not get it, truly out of this world when a bird loves you.

Yes, we are privileged to know the love of birds! Chaska snuggling under my neck and purring, Maui flying to me for comfort and a cuddle and the cheerful chirps that greet me when I wake up in the morning and get home from work. I feel the love every day!

gbird, i feel EXACTLY the same way.... its truely an amazing thing. i was/am also new to birds.. i have had shadow about 5 months now. i feel exactly the same way about everything you said !

I was thinking this exact thing yesterday night. Doyle was being so sweet cuddling and mumbling (he only mumbles when he is really comfortable). When we got him I would have never thought they could be so affectionate and loving, they are true joys to have around.
