I once lived for several months in a townhouse apartment with a military macaw. He wasn't very noisy, and the neighbors never complained. I'm sure it's 'cause they were all deaf from their blasting music and screaming children.... :-).

we're in a 2 story townhouse with a senegal. we've got some great kind of firewalls here that block out a lot of the noise, but she's pretty quiet most of the time. most of the noise comes from the neighbors blasting music in the back yard and their dogs barking at everything.

that, plus getting jacked on a lease renewal means we're not signing another lease...

my ekkie talks and whistles to herself (and others) for most of the day but she is very low-volume--it's more like having a radio or tv on all the time in another room.

My BG macaw is just LOUD. He doesn't scream unless I leave the room... but he is LOUD. Even when he says "hello" or "hi bird!" (his greetings), it's about 5 times as loud as Scarlett's voice and that's just him calmly saying hi. I can't even imagine having him in an apartment or condo.

We have a smaller house--3 BR, 1 BA ranch--but the windows are closed for the winter so the neighbors don't really hear the macaw clearly at all. Hopefully he will quit the frustrated yelling by spring b/c I love to have the windows open all the time. Yesterday morning he was screaming "what the fcuk! what the fcuk!" while I was drying my hair at 5:30am.

Cockatiels are ideal apartment birds. They are relatively quiet and their pleasant chirp isn't likely to disturb the neighbors. You could even get two of the same sex, they will keep each other company.

I did a lot of research before getting Nemo my parrotlet. The research says parrotlets are great apartment birds as they are quiet. lol. Well I live in a small apartment complex made up of four duplexs. One day when I got home from work, the neighbor next door said, "your attack bird is calling you!" He said it laughing but it made me realize that they can hear him! :-)

I keep Nemo's cage in my living room. He fits nicely into my small apartment
But parrotlets can be nosiy..nothing like the larger parrots of course that can scream.

Charlie's living here with me now. He's very much typical of the conures, which is why it makes them so undesirable to many... worse yet, the beauty of suns and jendays gets them sold quickly.... and gets them rehomed quickly because of "uncontrollable noise". I would never recommend an aratinga conure, lovebird, OR parrotlet for apartments... as far as the pyrrhura conures go, I guess it really depends on the birds themselves... however they do generally speaking have a high pitched squawk.

Charlie is just fine here, noise is no issue, and although yes he still screams, and he has his days, his screaming is getting less infrequent. However, my other conure Noel, cherry head, could probably live in an apartment, and other than in the morning no one would even know she was there... but she's not typical of conures so I can't recommend them for apartments, especially since they are of the aratinga like Charlie, a mitred.

To the people who think Suns/Jendays are uncontrollabley noisy, I'd tell 'em to get a macaw. Pretty soon, they'll never even notice the noise a conure makes! *grins*

We live in a rather small apartment. Two apartments actually and combined its still under 800 square feet. It is a one bedroom (420 square feet) with a door in the separating wall to a studio (370 square feet). In the studio half I have put up a partition wall to create the "master" bedroom for my wife and I and the computer room or closet . My wifes youngest son, pushing 18 hard, gets the other bedroom. Our fids, a Lovebird, Senegal, Eclectus, live in the family room. I have yet to receive a single complaint about my birds. All my neighbors but one have been hand picked. Oh did I forget to mention that I am the maintenance manager where I live? hehehe

i live in an apartment with a greencheek. he's fine for the most part, but i sometimes hear him from the hallway chattering up a storm when i come home. he also sometimes complains in a very noisy manner, but it's not a long thing so it's fine - no complaints yet. (and even if there would be any - the building manager and her daughter love valo to death )
my dad has a tiel in an apartment back home, and i can hear him from downstairs of the building... seems like everybody is deaf or very tolerant.
