I am sorrry Dyana. That was worded badly. I should have said be cautious shopping for cages in pet shops. Some pet stores put a very high markup on cages they are selling. You obviously run a good pet shop that cares. But a lot are just in it for the money.

I do that every now and then for people that really need it and can't afford it.

Try not to be too narrow in your search.

Only once have I ever seen a good, used, large enough for Arthur and heavy-duty enough SS cage, and it was at a bird show ($350!!), where it was already sold to another vendor before the show even opened to those of us who went to look. I would love to find a decently-priced, good, heavy duty SS cage to replace Arthur's powder coated one. You tell me where to find one at a non-exhorbitant price, and I'll go looking! I've never seen another one discounted for less than $1500!

Good, used (or discounted for some other reason), huge powder coated cages are almost a dime a dozen out there, but the SS we need to find for Arthur just don't seem to exist in the used/discount world out there....

That is because they are so AWESOME that no one wants to get rid of them! LOL

Good job getting the right cage for him. If I got one of those GW's I would need that same cage.

It's the amazon that has the most vote right? I saw that felt terrible too, what a life for a bird. I guess a lot of people felt bad for the bird and voted for her, but I must be a terrible person because I felt like while the bird deserves a better cage the PERSON that owns that bird did not. After all it is HER responsibility to provide proper care for her bird and she's asking others to do so...

Grillis that is one of the most beautiful budgie cages I ever saw. I would love to have one like that in the future.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if the amazon really lives there, or if the picture was posted in hopes of winning the contest through dishonesty? :/ Then again, I'm pretty skeptical about things like that and would really hope that poor bird doesnt have to live in there day in and day out.

I keep voting for our forum's Maxi, of course, because he deserves the cage and it's such a wonderful new start for the poor little critter.

I guess the whole idea behind the amazon picture : Hey, I don't take proper care of my bird, give me free expensive stuff! - irks me. Nice cages are fairly expensive but if youre going to need to have a cheap, temporary solution, they can be found or made that aren't so demeaning and unhealthy for the poor bird.

I can tell you if my home burned to the ground including all of my connections/money and means of supporting myself and my bird... my african grey would not live in a tiny shoe box. Even if you are forced to keep your bird in poor conditions (ahem... very hypothetically, obviously) there are ways to avoid rust and insanely cramped conditions.

Of couse no one wants to be rid of the good ones. Silly people... LOL!

That said, I know of some cheaply made ones out there that I wouldn't even consider purchasing after having seen a full grown BG and a baby Hy take one apart. Good ones keep forever, and I really don't expect to find one for cheap out there. Still 'n' all--one can hope!

The powder coated ones work fine for Bob and Ceilidh--they're not that destructive to hard metal objects, but Arthur is just tooooo destructo-bird most of the time. What I'd really like to have is a double macaw SS cage. Or maybe two, in case I ever get a Hy :-). Of couse, where in the world we'd put them is WAY beyond me!

People used to laugh at me when I had one tiel in a 75 x 90 cm cage that was taller than I am. Now it's the Jendays turn ^_^ no one will ever be able to say my cages are too small. That's for sure. SS for the CAG some day. I'm going to have to do a lot of saving up for one though. Cages here are soo expensive. I just did a currency conversion and my powder coated one cost $700 a SS one would cost me about £1300 aprox $2500.
