Sanitizing new cages?

We just bought the birds travel cages from a store that has some other birds in it (I like buying from them cause their small, but usually I buy everything that is pre-packaged). What should I use to clean the cages before letting the birds in their new travel spaces? Thanks!!

Personally... would use bleach mix first with soap for any oil residue from manufacture... rinse...

Then use vinegar mix...rinse, rinse and rinse again... just in case there is any thing the bleach missed... and sun dry .....

If ya can't tell .... am parinoid about anything getting past me to the birds... may mean extra scrubbin for me ... but better safe than sorry...

Would do the same to any cage ... even straight from manufacture... who knows what the people making cages have been exposed to/have....

I use Vanodine. Its completely safe *if* you dont get 100% of the residue off.

Bleach... one part bleach to 10 parts water... and a couple of drops of dawn dish detergent..

Vinigar... vinegar and water ... equal amounts... can also use this around birds... I use this to do the daily wipe down in cages.... spray vinegar/water mix from spray bottle, let sit for a few min and wipe with paper towels to clean poop and stuff before paper change....

Weekly cage cleaning ... do all of the above with sponge and scrub brush ... to clean all the poop and stuff that gets in strange? places and gets missed during the week...

GSE .. Grapefruit Seed Extract ... also works well.... I tried it and hands swelled up, I could not use it (gave it to a friend that also has birds and uses it regualary) ... found out later ... allergic to citruis oils

Thank you everyone :)

I didn't know you could use the vinegar solution around the birds...that's really much more convenient than I thought!
