Terrible Two's in Spades...!!!!

Peanut, the former sweet and lovable WFA has recently turned into a willful, onery brat!!!! I had let her wings grow out and since she has learned to fly, she won't stay on my finger naynore, it's a game to her to fly away and make e come and get her. So...should I clip her wings again or is this a phase.

She is just 14 months old now.

Thanks for any help.

Gail

I think you answered your own question. It's a game, play and enjoy it with her. But you must guard against Peanut being able to win totally.

I have always allowed my Double Yellow to fly freely and there was no problem until the day we moved into a new place that had high ceilings. I made the mistake of putting one of his cages atop the fridge just to give him a feeling of having a commanding view of the room when he chose to do so. Problem was, he soon discovered that when he landed on top of that cage, I could not reach him and he took the command situation seriously.

After a few in-the-face landings and bitten lips and nose, I took the cage down and clipped the wings. He soon learned who was really in command and the whole attitude changed. By the time the flight feathers had grown out again, he knew who was the alpha "bird" in the flock and there was no more problem between us. Today he flies freely once more and there is no place I can't reach him so he doesn't misbehave.

It may not even be necessary for you to clip Peanut, just play the game of "I'll fly away and you come get me" as long as there is no place where you CAN'T get her.The whole thing is probably a test to see if there is or isn't ya know?

Thanks for the insight, I'll let her continue to fly and see how it goes. What does the head bobbing mean, she has started doing that a lot to her toys and sometimes just to herself while she mumbles.

Head bobbing is a sign of pleasure. It means she is having so much fun she could just eat it up. I guess the closest equivalent to human action is licking the lips. as both are sort of caricatures of a pleasurable taste of food.

One day, you will give Peanut something to eat that she really really loves and is just in the mood for that day and she will show her appreciation by coming over and bobbing her head and throwing up the food all over your hand.

Congratulations! You are raising a very happy bird. ;)

Re: Terrible Two's in Spades...!!!!

She does love food!! Veggies, parrot bread, pellets, whatever!!! She make a sound when she sees food like someting between a purr and a growl.

She is so much fun to have around, since I work where I live, managing apartments, I can come home for lund and let her out of her cage for about 45 minutes. She also gets out in the morning and for about an hour after work, so she doesn't screa a lot when she is in her cage.

I'm glad she's happy, oh and she just started to fan her tail and show off.
