Flight harness? flight suit? what are they?

hi
excuse my...unknowingness, but what is the difference between a flight suit and harness and other sorts of things with similar purposes.
Is there some controversy to these things?
i was going to get a feather tether harness, is it worth it??? which is best?
is it possible that i just make one myself?
thanx all!

This is a flight suit. http://www.birddiaper.com/ Since you have small birds, I think they would be more comfortable in a flight suit than a harness.

I think the flight suits and harnesses are a great idea IF you can get your bird to wear one! Most of the people that I've talked to said that they taught their bird to wear one when they were still babies. The general consciousness seems to be that the older the bird, the harder it will be to get them to wear a suit or harness. Of course, some lucky people I've talked to had no problem getting their bird to wear one!

If you want your bird to wear one, you will need time and patience. Some, if not all, brands come with a DVD that shows you how to apply the device and teach your bird to accept it.

Good luck and keep us posted on how things go.

Rick

the aviator is another type of harness...something like the feather teather, but from what i hear, there is less material that touches the bird, which might make the bird more comfortable when wearing it. the only thing is...from the looks of it, the aviator costs about twice as much as the feather teather, if not more.

i am really contemplating on getting a couple of harnesses, or flight suits for my two green cheeks. id love to get them out of the house when i take my amazon.

when i think about the differences between a flight suit and a harness (please let me know if i am wrong), the flight suit has a poop catcher, the harness is just the harness that goes around the birds body.

Well Sophie is very fickle about her harness. One day she just lets me put it on and all is good in the world...............next day I loose fingers............

Kate, that is correct. Charlie has a regular feather tether or harness, and he doesn't like it one bit!

If you go for the harness the Aviator is by far easier to use than the feather tether. I have both and will not ever go back to the feather tether. Not to mention the people who sell the avaitor are awesome to work with. The higher cost is absolutely worth it!

i think flight suits look stupid and look way to bulky and uncomfortable for birds, especially with the velcrow along the back and the stupid poop pouch.

Ive got a Feather Teath for my conures, and its awesome, easy to use.. just slip it over their heads and then under the wings and Clip it up.

thanx guys! that's giving me alot to chew on.
IMO i think the flight suit looks to bulky on the little guys. Can a bird die if they jerk to hard on the harness? isn't there somethign about the poo sticking to a bird when it wears the flight suit?
Ive taught my bird to poo on command, so i dont think the flight suit is necessary, and i don't think thye seel the aviator here and we dont have credit cards or buy things off the net.
My mum doesnt even want me to buy the harness, she thinks its too pricey, she'd preferr i make it...i think not.

No, the poop doesn't get anywhere near the bird. It is collected on a small pad in the pointy part at the rear of the bird. Yeah, I agree they look silly, but I've found that smaller birds like tiels will accpet them more readily than a harness. Big birds could be different.
