Question Need magazine recommendations please

Hi Everybody, Hope you all (Americans) had a wonderful Thanksgiving and everyone else just had a great Thursday, Friday and Weekend I am a subscriber to "Bird Talk" magazine but I'm finding a bit too "elementary" for my needs. I'm a pretty serious "science" kind of guy and I want to find a magazine that is geared toward the serious bird hobbyist. I'm looking for a publication that will have habitat studies, in-depth articles on specific parrot species, taxonomic news and reports, more complex articles on nutritional needs, etc.

In the Amercian orchid world, my usual "habitat", we have two major publications, "Orchids" published by the American Orchid Society, is more simplistic (much to the dismay of many members) and aimed at the "general public" and "The Orchid Digest", a much more sophisticated publication aimed at the serious orchid grower who needs information beyond the basics. I am looking for the "birdie" version of Orchid Digest.

Please let me know your thoughts and recommendations. I really appreciate this board and the well thought out responses to questions. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Well Hi there fellow Orchid person, lol you should also look into getting the newsletter from the Pleurothallid Alliance: http://www.pleurothallids.com/The_Pl...d_Alliance.htm
But you are correct in that there really is no such publication, at least not to my knowledge.
Perhaps that's an endeavor someone here could try to tackle.

Graehstone, actually you and I have met and your wife is a dear person I always enjoy talking with at shows. She's a real friend! I knew who you are by your list of birds! PM me and we'll discuss further.

Good Bird Magazine, like Jeth said, is a good behavioral magazine. I also read Watchbird Magazine, it's from the AFA and I believe you have to become a member in order to get it. It's more informative as far as species and facts. It's pretty thin though. I find it, ok, but much more statistical. I have to agree with Mike, I haven't found anything available to the common public. You know I see magazines at my AV's office but I think it may have been for the they AVA, but it was focused on exotics. If your interested I can look into it for ya.

I'm interested in any good things I can get my hands on, so any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Does "Good Bird" have a website? Whatever happened to American Cage Bird magazine? Do they still exist? anybody know? What do you guys think about the various specialty groups like the American Cockatiel Society?

Good Bird Magazine's website is: goodbirdinc.com

I will ask my AV next time I talk to her. Either tomorrow or Wednesday. The rest of your questions, I'm sorry I can't answer. Maybe someone else can help you.

My vet highly recommended both Good Bird Magazine and Companion Parrot Quarterly, so I just subscribed to them both. But haven't recieved any issues yet so can't give my own opinion.

I won a Parrot Life Magazine in a raffle at a bird expo. It was a neat magazine. They had a lot of conservation stuff and interesting articles on parrot health.

I loved Bird Talk to start but now they just seem so intermediate. I love the photos in Birdtalk though.

I adore Companion Parrot. That is the magazine to look through for behavioral stuff and to learn about the pet bird quality of each species. I have always been a Sally Blanchard fan though. I can't wait to meet her at the Parrot Festival!
