Adios Petco !

I just gave my notice to Petco. Saturday will be my last day (Val....I'll see you Friday) I will never work in a chain retail pet store again. Petco's moto is "Petco, where animals come first" Unless my manager is there, then it's all about the numbers, stocking, setting up displays....oh and then the animals. I'm tired of argueing with him about what the birds need & don't need.

I will say, that I'm glad I started working there, because I got my Pita Baby from there.....and Val is going to take the Sun we have there now.....I feel bad about the baby's I will leave behind, but I promise I will make phone calls & send E mails to make sure things change, at least in that store.

That is great that you are standing up for what you believe is right. Thank you for making sure the birds left behind are not forgotten and hopefully the conditions that are at that particular store change.

I worked for Petco a long time ago when I was in high school. All the high schoolers worked there and it was a lot of fun.The particular one I worked for didn't have birds, but tons of fish and reptiles...However it was a very small Petco...

I think you are doing what is right. Standing up for yourself is very important.

Mine has Finches, Parakeets, 2 Tiels, a Sun, a Quaker, and 2 Canary's. Ferrets, mice, hampsters, Guinie Pigs, rats, fish (fresh & salt), snakes, frogs, turtles, tarantulas, Scorpions ( ) and Hermet crabs....and it's a daily battle to make sure they are opened & closed right.....yesterday, I closed the birds, and the Finches litterally had no food in thier bowl. Now Finches don't go through food that fast, so I complained that whoever opened the birds, did nothing. It breaks my heart.

I'm thinking of volunteering at The Gabriel Foundation here in Colorado. But not till I get a new job and get settled in my new house. Now that I have a bird, and know a bit more about them, I'd love to work in a all bird store.

Wow, looks like Petco's have added more pets into their stores. However, like I said that was years ago when I was in high school! From what I can remember there was fish (Salt and Fresh), lizards, and snakes...Oh and a chinchilla. Those poor birds. No food? How about water?
