MBS ???? Help

OK....so yeah, like everyone else, I would love to rescue a birdy. But what is a good choice considering my bond with Pita. I don't want him to suffer, and I don't want the new baby's to suffer.

What I am thinking of is a pair of Keets, or a pair of P'lets. TGF has tons of Keets, and 2 pairs of P'lets....who are very bonded and would have to go together.

My reasoning is that a pair of Keets or bonded P'lets would require less one on one interaction, and less handling out of cage time than a different bird.

Thier cage would be in the living room with Pita (not in Pitas cage, thier own cage, Pitas old on infact which is way big enough) and were all the action is, and god knows they wouldn't suffer from not enough toys.

My question is....what do you guys think? How do you think Pita would react, even though nothing would change for him, or should it change, or would it?

Right now it's in the thinking stages, but that can go into the action stage at any moment.

We've gotten two more fids since we got Autumn (our Sun). Autumn isn't territorial towards them (she's more curious than anything, she wants to play) or seem to have altered her feelings towards me/us. She still cuddles with me and wants to play. She only squawks when I pay attention to the others rather than her (and only when everyones in their cage, when they're all out... no sqwalking).

Birds being individuals I cannot guarantee you'll not have troubles, but it's my experience that Suns are more social than most other Conures and seem to be more accepting of new members. But that's just my experience. Maybe some others may have a different or supportive note to add. If it were me... I'd get the birds (but I don't have anymore room :(

Here's a thought...Pita might enjoy a bird he can interact with. Are there any Quakers at TGF?Suns seem to get along well with them in general and there is no size discrepancy so less worry about a dangerous encounter. Not sure about the laws on keeping them in Colorado though.Cheddy didn't get jealous when we brought Pollo home,he tried really hard to be friends but Pollo still runs him off.He did however get insanely jealous when my tiel Sunny lived here a few weeks between homes[husband's asthma wouldn't allow her to stay].Cheddy didn't like the obvious bond between me and Sunny.I think it will be the way you handle your new arrival that determines how Pita feels rather than the species.

i agree a quaker would be a good bird to look into.

thats a tough dissision. thats a good point about a pair not taking away alot of quality pita time, but a buddy would be good too, or not. pita may bond with the buddy, and leave you out in the cold. either way, pita would have someone to talk to, or screeem at while your gone, but your not gone that much.

just flip a coin.

my thoughts are with the pair, but thats just me. im not much help am i?

have you thought of fostering? that way, its just temporary if things done work out. if pita gets along with foster bros. and sisters, that will tell you if getting another bird is a good, or bad idea. am i making any sence? i was up late last nite.

I say BUDGIES

My experience from my 2 boys: even if they're not tame, the buggers are NOSY about everything Both of my boys are fascinated with Lulu - with Jerry it's more of a lust/infatuation when it comes to Lulu (and that lust is not reciprocated lol), but Winston is just plain fascinated with her. He watches her all the time and wants to be doing whatever she's doing, so he'll often fly to her and kick her off whatever gym/toy she's on. He doesn't want to be buddies with her, he gives her the open beak if she gets too close, but he's like the annoying brother who wants to do everything his bigger sister is doing

So the nosiness factor would be the only thing that I would monitor - meaning the budgies may want to go over to Pita and pester (cause they pester really well ) and he may not like that. My boys play together and occupy themselves really well overall, but there is that fascination with Lulu - in my case that's resolved easily because if someone's being annoying or annoyed they just fly somewhere else.

Seeing the bond that you have with Pita may make the budgies curious about you And then you'll have budgie hair pieces and budgie broaches on you

Budgies are so darned hyper that even if they could get out for a good fly for even an hour every day that would be great for them. I'll bet that even if they don't already play much with toys they'll learn to play with toys from watching Pita play.
