Ingrid:

You will have to contact the countries you'll be traveling through and get their specifics. Frankly, I will be shocked if they let you travel with birds. Europe is really on high alert due to bird flu in Southeast Asia. And, most birds must be banded and of course pass medical examination before permits can be issued. Try contacting the consulates of the countries you will be passing through. They can at least let you know what you need.

You have to talk to the agriculture department of the country you're arriving to, they will know what paperworks you'll need.

I know it's possible to bring a bird from USA to Sweden.

hey ingrid....

i asked a similar question in a different thread, but the answers were more in the region of "not possible", "wouldn't do it" etc.
i'm looking into the same issue - would be great if you could keep me posted what you find out. i'll do the same.

thanks,
birgit

hey ingrid....

i started digging a little bit to find some information. i contacted the austrian parrot association and asked if it was possible to bring birds to europe. currently, it is not allowed to bring birds into the european union. however, i was re-directed by the person who responded to contact the department of agriculture since it is possible to apply for an exeption to bring PRIVATELY owned birds.
i'll contact them to see what paperwork they require and keep you posted. (since it's an EU law/ban, i assume you'll have to do the same thing for your birds as i'll have to do when i go back home)

It would be interesting to find out from our perspective, too. All of our macaws are either Cites I or II-listed, and Ceilidh, Arthur and Eddie are not banded. Eventually, we'd like to move back to the UK or Ireland, but we will NOT if we can't bring the flock with us. Too bad the UK doesn't have the Passport Scheme in place for pet birds, like they do for dogs and cats....
