Very good!
The only thing I can think of except what Ainon wrote is that the eye look a bit flat. Maybe if you put a white spot in the pupil it would look a bit more round. Other than that its great. The feathers and all! Nice work |

Thanks for the input...
Having never lived with 'Zons, I had to guess about some details- The 'feather feature' is a great hint, should make the drawing more lifelike. The eye has more dimension in real life than shows up in the scan... I loose SO much when I scan them at low resolution like this, though. -Andrew |

A very nice pic as usual, Andy.
You know I usually don't like to critique your work, cuz ya do such a good job.... but this time I agree with most of what's the others have said.... re: Ainon comment: IMHO, I don't feel it's the beak, so much as maybe the size & placement of the nostril. 'Zons have fairly big nostril openings that are fairly high up. Check Freedomoflight's avatar - it's a great Zon facial close-up & you can see the nostrils are pretty big compared to the beak size as well as being higher & closer together. re Freedomoflight about head feathers- Yes, it could use just a little more definition on some of the head feathers.... and about what Grillis mentioned with the eye looking flat... I think it may be because the pupil isn't quite round enough. Mature 'Zons have those very fiery & expressive orange/red iris -some even have a thin yellow ring. Together they really highlight the dark roundness of the 'Zons pupils. In your pic, it's more of a backwards tilted oval, which gives the eye more of a slitted, reptilian or the horizontal goat-pupil look.

Interesting use of the flower - the tips work well with the beak tip.
You have a nice definition between the head & the background tone around the forehead. Were the beak is, it could be more punchy if the beak was darker & the background overall was the same tone as beside the beak. One artist I admire said he focused quite a bit on the lines between areas, like the head & background, to make his work more powerful. Overall I'd say it's a good piece. Brave of you to encourage a critique.
