I think that his methods seems to be good. From my perspective his way of training birds is the right way. He ask the bird to do something and he rewards it when it does. No punishment just rewards. It can also be easier to have seen someone who's well known with training birds when you first start.

IMO, Chet Womach puts too much time and effort in promoting his DVD's, especially his latest about revealing bad pet stores and how to choose a healthy pet bird from one... I'm not saying his methods are bad, or that his training courses are, I just think that he puts FAR too much time in trying to sell YOU his DVD's...
Here's a quote from his last one... Quote:
Please, understand, that I'm not saying that he has bad videos, as I'm sure many people have learned some GREAT info from him and his brother, and he DOES have informative e-mails that he sends out from time to time... All I'm saying is that they put a lot of time and effort in trying to sell you these videos, and I just don't like their sales tactics. Someone did once point out though that there were several different stories about different birds, however the stories were the exact same other than a change of bird name and species. Least bit, Kim Bear, a cockatoo expert and behavoirist recommends him and his videos.

If you want to learn the proper way of training, pick up the video sold at www.goodbirdinc.com its the first training DVD in the series. Chet Womach uses flooding techniques and other adversive techniques that can actually teach your bird bad behavior in the long run. Mattie Sue Athan is also a good resource for learning the correct way to train your companion parrot.

Clicker training for birds is completely based on positive reinforcement and building trust. There's an excellent book on the subject at http://www.amazon.com/Clicker-Traini...dp/1890948152/ |

Or get a subscription to Bird Talk magazine. They have excellent, informative articles on a wide range of subjects including trick training, and if you order online at http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-maga...k/default.aspx a 12-month subscription costs only $14. It's the biggest bird-related bargain I know of. |
