mizbirdy, you've hit the nail right on the head. Of all our birds, the two that bite the hardest--and are the most prone to biting at all--are our 2 smallest. The Sun Conure will bite any male, and when he's tired of being held, even by Ms. A or myself, he'll give a good, sharp bite to let you know. It HURTS! He probably doesn't get handled quite as much as he would otherwise be because of that.
Next up in size is Eddie the Severe, and let me tell you, he has NO fear of the human race, and hates 99.9999% of it--and is quite willing to draw blood to keep those of us that he doesn't like far, far away. It works. The biggest (Blue and Mikey--Blue's not mine, but we love each other like he is) wouldn't even consider biting, I'm sure. I think those big blues save their beak strength for destroying inanimate objects, only :-).
