Question about Cologne/Perfume

Hi,

I was wondering if it's safe for your bird to climb on your shoulder if you're wearing cologne/perfume? I was told when I had my CAG that it was a no, no. Something about the cologne/perfume absorbing into thier feet, is this true? Is this the same for floor cleaner. This was never an issue with my CAG since my whole house had carpet but my new place has nothing but tile flooring which I clean with PineSol.

TIA,
Michelle

I wouldn't use PineSol, the fumes could be bad. I have quit wearing perfume since getting Doyle, they are so sensitive to smells, I don't want to take a chance. I clean the floors with hot water and vingar. We only have laminate though. Smells bad for about 30 minutes, but it cleans well.

Hot water and vinegar I don't know if I can stand the smell Is there anything else I can use? Maybe something natural? Does natural lemon juice kill gems?

Or you can use just soap and water. I am sure there is something you can buy, I just don't know what, lol.

I have tile and wood floors. I use Lysol and water to clean. Ya never know what gets tracked in. I also have a Hoover Floormate and I LOVE IT!!!! A cap ful of Lysol per tank of hot water and it smells clean without being too strong.

I am a Chandler and I ALWAYS smell like candles. I think it is permanent.... Anyway, the birds don't seem to mind. Maxies loves the smell of Nag Champa.

The BEST cleaner for removing poop and killing bacteria with NO staining and NO smell whatsoever has to be Grapefruit Seed Extract. Its great, inexpensive and powerful.

I mix about 30 drops into a quart of hot water and spray away. Its wonderful. Hit the hard poop and let it stand for about 10 minutes before you scrape and clean.

I buy about 2 bottles a year to clean 9 cages. You will be very happy. I promise.

where's the best place to get GSE, Nancy? I mean, do some stores have it or do you have to go online to get it?

Health food stores sell it and you can also get it from a lot of places online. Try a Google search and you may want to compare prices.

I would also try to avoid wearing the perfume and handling the bird. I do wear it out for special events/dates, but I have a dressing area in my basement and I only spritz it down there right before I leave the house. Sometimes I will even do it in the car after I've left.

But I won't allow Tuki on my shoulder (and neck) until I've showered.
