Aint Love Grand

Lucky stuff happened to me on Friday! Was feeding the lorikeets in the morning as usual and turned around and saw a lori on the outside of the aviary above my dogs who were taking great glee in being so close to one! Did a head count in the aviary to find out it was one of my girls! Anyway panic stations, ran out of aviary and found the net. Bird was still on wire kissing her boyfriend on the other side. Got her back in with a huge amount of squawking that I thought they would attack me trying to get her back in!!! Got her in and she and clive canoodled madly as I walked away relieved.

Anyway got home from work that afternoon and was doing some gardening with hubby when I felt a woosh of air and wings go over top of me, and Paul made a surprised noise and stated that he had just been swooped! Then he saw the bird and said it was my featherless Lorikeet Wally. (Wally attacked Paul in the aviary a while ago when he was trying to remove a deceased baby from their nest.) Anyway he said "that bloody bird hates me!!" Anyway panic stations again trying to catch Wally. He was pretty stuffed though after a day of adventure! Didnt know he had gotten out either, so glad we were working in the yard! Cant figure out how the little buggers got out, but certainly glad they love their partners enough to not want to flee captivity!!
Plugged up the only possible place that they could be crawling out of, so hopefully I wont come home to anymore surprises in future!

That reminds me of what someone did to create freeflight birds... They'd have their birds set up in pairs, and would occasionally let only one bird out to fly around. The bird would fly off but sooner or later would return.... after some time they'd let the other bird out, bird would fly off then return later on... and it was repeated long enough that they were able to let both birds out and the birds would return... Okay, I DON'T recommend anyone to do that since you could loose your birds! But it was just something I found interesting...

Glad you got both fids back and they are doing well!
